Nittany Lions DT Jordan Hill is proving Penn State is more than just “Linebacker U.”
The anchor of the defense amassed a season-high nine tackles in a 38-14 win at Iowa on Saturday en route to earning Big Ten defensive player of the week. He also was credited with two tackles for loss, a sack and a quarterback hurry as the Hawkeyes finished with a mere 209 total yards. It was the first weekly award for the senior.
Nebraska QB Taylor Martinez claimed his third Big Ten offensive player of the week award and fourth of his career as he led the Cornhuskers to a 29-28 win at Northwestern. The junior totaled 407 yards and rallied his team from a 12-point deficit. He finished with 342 yards passing and three scores as he completed 27 of 39 passes to go with 65 rushing yards and a touchdown on 18 carries.
Michigan K Brendan Gibbons connected on all three of his field goal attempts in a 12-10 win over Michigan State to earn Big Ten special teams player of the week honors. Gibbons drilled attempts from 21 and 24 yards before converting a game-winning 38-yard boot with five seconds left. The junior is eighth in school history with 24 career field goals. It is his first career weekly award.
Meantime, Penn State TE Kyle Carter earned Big Ten freshman of the week honors for tying a career-high with six catches for a career-best 85 yards against the Hawkeyes. The victory also marked the first start of his career. It is his first career weekly award.
