MICHIGAN STATE WON: Following last week's loss to Notre Dame, Michigan State wanted to send a message to the rest of the country this week and did just that. Unfortunately for the Spartans, that message was that Michigan State just might not be very good.

When the Spartans only managed to score three points against a good Notre Dame defense last week, that was understandable. What's not is the way the Spartans' offense struggled against an Eastern Michigan defense that came into this game allowing 514.3 yards and 40.7 points per game. 

The Spartans trailed 7-6 before finally taking the lead with a field goal late in the third quarter. Sparty would finally find the end zone halfway through the fourth quarter and then Le'Veon Bell would break into the end zone to ice this one later.

WHY MICHIGAN STATE WON: Because Eastern Michigan just isn't very good. If it was, the Spartans aren't winning. The Eagles managed only 183 yards of offense -- and a lot of credit must go to a Michigan State defense that is certainly not the problem in East Lansing -- yet they were still in this game until just before the seven-minute mark of the fourth quarter. If Michigan State doesn't improve on offense quickly, life in the Big Ten will not be fun.

WHEN MICHIGAN STATE WON: This game was over when Andrew Maxwell found Dion Sims for Michigan State's first touchdown in seven quarters. It was only a nine-point lead, but Eastern Michigan wasn't overcoming that deficit.

WHAT MICHIGAN STATE WON: While a win is a win and no team would ever turn one down, this wasn't a win that Michigan State will be very proud of. No, it's likely the only noise you'll hear coming from the Michigan State locker room following this one won't be celebratory cheers, but coaches yelling about mistakes.

WHAT EASTERN MICHIGAN LOST: The Eagles missed out on a chance to help the MAC complete one of the best days in the conference's history. Particularly the directional schools of Michigan, as Central Michigan beat Iowa earlier in the day and Western Michigan beat UConn.

THAT WAS CRAZY: Bell truly is the Michigan State offense. The Spartans finished the day with 428 yards of offense; Bell gained 253 of those yards. Meanwhile, Eastern Michigan finished with 183 yards.
