Oklahoma linebacker Frank Shannon has been accused of sexually assaulting a female student according to a report in The Oklahoman, which obtained a Title IX sexual misconduct allegation report of the incident. The alleged assault took place at Shannon's off-campus apartment on Jan. 20. Norman police are investigating the incident, but no charges have been filed.
According to the report the incident took place after a party. Shannon allegedly offered a ride home to a woman at the party, but told her that he needed to drop friends off near his apartment first. The complaint then alleges that Shannon took the woman into his bedroom. Once there Shannon allegedly came up behind the woman, pulled her pants down and tried to have sex with her.
The complainant says Shannon then became frustrated when she did not cooperate with him and allegedly asked her if she was menstruating. She answered yes, and then Shannon went to the bathroom. That's when the woman left and met a friend she had texted to come get her in the parking lot. The friend then called the police.
In the report Shannon says the woman laid on top of him, kissed him and removed her own clothing. Shannon also said that he did ask the woman if she was menstruating, but that she said "no," and they argued about it before he left to go to the bathroom. Shannon also said that the woman is accusing him to set him up for a rape charge, or because she was embarrassed he wouldn't have sex with her.
The report also includes text messages between the woman and the friend who picked her up. The complainant told her friend that she was raped in that conversation, and a few hours later the friend sent the complainant a text apologizing for calling the police, saying she only did it to protect her.
Oklahoma's athletics department is yet to issue a comment about the alleged assault.
