Mississippi State 28, Auburn 10: The Bulldogs improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2000 and snapped a four-game skid to Auburn behind Tyler Russell's three touchdown passes. The Tigers fell to 0-2 for the first time since 2003, getting their only touchdown on Onterio McCalebb's 100-yard kickoff return. It was Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen's first win over an SEC West opponent beside Ole Miss. 

No. 9 South Carolina 48, East Carolina 10: Starting for the injured Connor Shaw, redshirt freshman Dylan Thompson hit 21 of 37 throws for 330 yards and three touchdowns. His first completion was a 53-yard strike to Damiere Byrd, setting up Marcus Lattimore's 6-yard TD run. It was the 33rd career score for Lattimore, tying a school record. The Gamecocks, who forced five turnovers, are 2-0 with a home game against UAB next.

No. 24 Florida 20, Texas A&M 17: The Gators held the Aggies to 65 yards in the second half to spoil A&M's SEC debut. Mike Gillislee  ran for two touchdowns, including a 12-yard sideline tightrope in the fourth quarter, as Florida overcame an early 17-7 deficit. Gillislee has four TDs in Florida's 2-0 start. Texas A&M lost despite racking up eight sacks.

No. 1 Alabama 35, Western Kentucky 0: The Crimson Tide forced four turnovers and quarterback AJ McCarron threw a career-high tying four TDs in the rout. Kevin Norwood caught three passes for 92 yards and two scores for Alabama, which plays No. 8 Arkansas next Saturday in Fayetteville. The Hilltoppers talked big all week but were unable to back it up. They did, however, sack McCarron six times. 

Tennessee 51, Georgia State 13: After a slow start, Tennessee looked like the heavy favorite it was against the undermanned Panthers. The first quarter ended with the Vols leading only 7-3, but QB Tyler Bray took over, leading Tennessee to a 28-6 halftime lead. Bray finished 18-of-20 passing for 310 yards and four touchdowns. WR Justin Hunter caught three of Bray’s scoring throws. 

No. 3 LSU 41, Washington 3: The Tigers bulldozed the Huskies for 242 rushing yards. Alfred Blue ran for 101 yards, including a 21-yard touchdown, and Kenny Hilliard added two short scoring runs. LSU sacked Washington's Keith Price four times, intercepted him once, and held him to 17-of-36 passing for 157 yards. Zach Mettenberger finished 12-of-18 for 195 yards and a touchdown.

Ole Miss 28, UTEP 10: The Rebels rolled up 538 yards of total offense and Bo Wallace threw three touchdowns and ran for another, giving Ole Miss a 2-0 start for just the second time in a decade. Wallace threw touchdown passes of 55, 51 and 3 yards to Donte Moncrief, Jaylen Walton and H.R. Greer, respectively. It was 21-0 at halftime. The Rebels host Texas next Saturday night.

Louisiana-Monroe 34, No. 8 Arkansas 31 (OT): The Razorbacks blew a 28-7 lead and might have lost QB Tyler Wilson, too. Wilson did not come out for the second half after suffering a head injury and taking several big hits before halftime. Warhawks QB Kolton Browning won the game with a 16-yard touchdown run on 4th-and-1 in overtime, after Arkansas had settled for a field goal. The Warhawks outgained the Razorbacks 550-377 in total yards. Arkansas lost as a 30-point favorite to a team that had never beaten a ranked opponent or finished over .500 at the FBS level.

Kentucky 47, Kent State 14:  Maxwell Smith threw for a career-high 354 yards and four touchdowns as the Wildcats won their seventh straight home opener. Raymond Sanders ran for 115 yards, and Aaron Boyd caught 11 passes for 100 yards. Kentucky piled up 539 total yards and scored the final 30 points to even its record at 1-1.

No. 7 Georgia 41, Missouri 20: Aaron Murray threw three TD passes and All-American OLB Jarvis Jones forced two fourth-quarter turnovers to ruin the Tigers' SEC debut. The Bulldogs trailed 20-17 late in the third quarter, then scored the final 24 points. Jones' 21-yard interception return set up Todd Gurley's 1-yard scoring run midway through the fourth, giving the Bulldogs a 34-20 lead. Georgia held Mizzou to 2.6 yards per carry. Bulldogs wideout Marlon Brown erupted for nine catches, 124 yards and two touchdowns.

Northwestern 23, Vanderbilt 13:  A once-promising season is going south fast for the Commodores, who are 0-2 after scoring 13 points in each loss. It was 13-all in the fourth quarter when QB Jordan Rodgers fumbled on a sack, setting up a 29-yard TD run by Kain Colter. Vandy allowed Northwestern's Venric Mark to run for 123 yards and a score.

Play of the week: Georgia All-American OLB Jarvis Jones is much more than a pass rusher. He proved it again by intercepting James Franklin in the fourth quarter and returning it 21 yards to the Missouri 1. That set up Todd Gurley's touchdown run, giving the Bulldogs a 34-20 lead. Jones, who sat back in coverage and read Franklin's eyes, also had a sack-fumble to end Mizzou's next drive.

He said what?: "We had 50 plays at halftime. That Clemson coach would be proud of us, wouldn't he?" -- South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier after the 48-10 win over East Carolina.

RapidReports offensive star of the week: QB Tyler Russell, Mississippi State. With his team down 14-10 after Auburn’s 100-yard kickoff return to start the second half, the junior methodically led the Bulldogs on consecutive TD drives. He made convincing play-action fakes and zipped the ball to Marcus Green (2 TDs), Chris Smith (5 catches, 46 yards) and Chad Bumphis (3 catches, 47 yards, TD). When he rolled right, Russell was highly accurate. He finished 20 of 29 for 223 yards, three TDs and no INTs.

Runner-up: Florida RB Mike Gillislee ran 14 times for 83 yards and two touchdowns against a fierce A&M defense, giving him four TDs in two games. His power running helped counter a dominant Aggies pass rush. On the go-ahead 12-yard touchdown, Gillislee used great vision to get outside and tiptoed down the sideline.

RapidReports defensive star of the week: CB Johnthan Banks, Mississippi State. The senior made life miserable for Auburn QB Kiehl Frazier, reading his eyes and picking him off twice in the first half. Banks has 14 career interceptions, two shy of the Bulldogs’ school record set by Walt Harris. He needs six from the SEC record.

Runner-up: Texas A&M DE Damontre Moore led a fierce pass rush, getting three of the Aggies' eight sacks. He had 8.5 sacks last season. 

His seat is getting uncomfortable: Gene Chizik. Auburn is 16-12 without Cam Newton, and that includes wins over six cupcakes. The Tigers have scored one offensive TD in their 0-2 start and haven’t scored an offensive TD in SEC play since a trick play Nov. 12 against Georgia. Chizik’s decision to stick with QB Kiehl Frazier in the second half against Mississippi State backfired. On Auburn’s most promising drive, the sophomore threw way late and was intercepted in the end zone by Darius Slay.

A possible spot on the bench for: QB Kiehl Frazier, Auburn. Frazier edged junior Clint Moseley in fall camp, in part because Moseley is battling tendonitis and an impingement in his shoulder. Frazier threw three interceptions, lost two fumbles and finished 13 of 22 for 125 yards. Impressive freshman QB Jonathan Wallace is another option.

Why you care about these stat lines: 

1. Kentucky's Maxwell Smith threw for 354 yards and four TDs. The sophomore was 30 of 39 and is 65 for 89 (73 percent) over the first two games. Smith has thrown six touchdowns without an interception. Although Kentucky's defense remains shoddy, Smith gives the Wildcats a lot of hope for the future.

2. Florida's Jeff Driskel was 13 of 16 without an interception. The sophomore rewarded Will Muschamp's faith with a gutty performance in his first start. He did not make the big mistake, though he took eight sacks, and ripped off a 21-yard run to ice the win. Driskel's mobility was a huge factor in Florida's victory.

3. LSU's Kenny Hilliard ran for two more TDs. The bruising sophomore has 12 rushing scores on just 88 career carries, or one TD every 7.3 carries. He's part of an extremely deep backfield featuring Alfred Blue, Michael Ford and Spencer Ware.

Key number: 5 for 9. That was Georgia's third-down conversion success in the second half, after going 0 for 7 in the first. The Bulldogs scored 32 second-half points en route to the 41-20 win over Mizzou.
