Tennessee and Missouri combined for a whopping 1,349 yards of offense in Saturday's SEC on CBS contest, a 63-37 Vols win on Senior Day in Neyland Stadium. Given the impressive numbers put up by both teams, it seems appropriate that we get to honor a pair of offensive players as the Scholar Athletes of the Week.
Tennessee redshirt junior Brett Kendrick has been responsible for protecting quarterback Joshua Dobbs as the team's starting left tackle for much of the season (eight starts at left tackle, three starts at right tackle). One reason he might be comfortable in the spot? He and several other offensive lineman are roommates with the stellar senior.
Kendrick, who currently holds a 3.25 GPA, is on schedule to graduate this December with a bachelor's degree in Recreation and Sport Management. He was named to the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll in 2015 and participates in hospital visits, Habitat for Humanity and LaTroy Lewis' Project Elevate "Hero Day" off the field.
Missouri tight end Sean Culkin was one of eight players to pull be targeted by Drew Lock through the passing game during the Tigers' 740-yard offensive explosion, adding two catches for 35 yards to the total. Culkin (3.23 GPA) has already graduated with a degree in Finance & Banking and is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Education, Counseling & Psychology (one major) during his final year of eligibility.
