For college kids not much can be better than a night at the bar when the drinks are on somebody else, but unfortunately for two Texas Tech players, the person paying for their drinks didn't know about it.Sophomores Jace Amaro and Kenny Williams were arrested early Friday morning after using a credit card to pay for drinks at the Firehouse Grill and Bar. Which would be perfectly legal had the credit card the players were using belonged to either of them.
The duo were able to buy around $100 worth of drinks before bar employees became suspicious according to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.
Chris Bourne, owner of the bar, said that Amaro and Williams were wearing Texas Tech gear in the bar, and after Bourne called the police the players tried to convince him to change his mind by repeatedly telling him that they were football players. Bourne also said that it's believed the players were sharing the drinks with friends, who were also sporting Texas Tech football gear.
The two players were booked into the Lubbock County Criminal Detention Center on Friday evening and charged with credit card abuse, a second-degree felony.
“Texas Tech will allow the Lubbock Police Department to conduct its investigation into the matter involving two football student-athletes,” said associate athletic director Blayne Beal in a statement to the Avalanche-Journal. “Once that investigation has been completed and more facts are known, the university and head coach Tommy Tuberville will take appropriate disciplinary action if necessary.”
Amaro, a tight end, had 7 receptions for 57 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Raiders last season. Running back Kenny Williams rushed for 135 yards and 2 touchdowns on 43 carries.
