Notre Dame is doing everything it can to get the College Football Playoff committee to forget its loss to NIU. The Fighting Irish are coming off a blowout win, and they're looking for another one against Virginia this weekend.

Last weekend, Notre Dame smelled blood in the water when Florida State came to town, and it feasted on a reeling program. The Irish dominated from start to finish in a 52-3 win, and they continued a trend of lopsided victories. Since losing to NIU in Week 2, Notre Dame has won seven straight games by an average margin of 25.4 points.

After a troubling start to the season, quarterback Riley Leonard looks much more comfortable in a Notre Dame uniform. Leonard has totaled 2,184 yards, and he's responsible for 22 total touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Virginia has taken a clear step forward in Tony Elliott's third season on the job. The Cavaliers have already won five games, and one more will match Elliott's combined win total from his first two years in Charlottesville. However, getting that sixth win this weekend does seem like a tall task.

Virginia started the season on a 4-1 run, but a three-game losing skid put a damper on things. The Cavs were able to get back into the win column last weekend with a 24-19 win over Pitt, but quarterback Anthony Colandrea has to take much better care of the football.
