Two of the top teams in the ACC standings will go head-to-head on Thursday when Syracuse visits No. 19 Pitt. The Orange and Panthers are still in the running for a spot in the conference title game, and the winner of this game will have an inside track.
Pitt has rattled off six straight wins to start the 2024 season, and it has the chance to make it seven in a row with Syracuse coming to town. Alabama transfer quarterback Eli Holstein, who has played well for most of the season, is looking to rebound after completing just 14 of his 28 pass attempts for 133 yards and two interceptions against California.
The defense is what pushed the Panthers over the finish line in that one, sacking Golden Bears quarterback Fernando Mendoza six times.
Syracuse is off to a good start of its own, and Ohio State transfer quarterback Kyle McCord has been slinging the ball all over the yard. He's already posted 2,160 yards, 19 touchdowns and six interceptions. The Orange will need McCord to be on his game if they're going to beat a stout Pitt defense.
If there is a concern for Syracuse, it's that the defense got beaten by an otherwise poor NC State passing attack a couple of weeks ago. Freshman quarterback CJ Bailey tossed for 329 yards and two scores against the Orange.
