  • Commanders' Samuel Cosmi: Inks extension with Washington

The Commanders signed Cosmi to a four-year, $74 million extension Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

At $18.5 million annually, Cosmi becomes the fifth-highest paid guard in the NFL, with more than $45 million in guaranteed money. Cosmi appeared in all 17 of the Commanders' regular-season contests in 2023, giving up just one sack while making the switch from tackle to guard. He's expected to continue anchoring the right side of Washington's offensive line for years to come after his extension.

  • Commanders' Samuel Cosmi: Full participant Wednesday

Cosmi (ankle) was a full participant during Wednesday's practice, Sam Fortier of The Washington Post reports.

Cosmi was forced to leave the Commanders' Week 13 matchup against the Giants due to an ankle injury, but it appears the team's Week 14 bye was beneficial, as he's logged a full practice Wednesday and is on track to suit up for Sunday's rematch against the Giants. He was filling in at right guard for Trai Turner (ankle), who returned to practice as a limited participant Wednesday, so Cosmi may revert to his usual reserve role for Week 15.

  • Commanders' Samuel Cosmi: Won't play Thursday

Cosmi (finger) was ruled out for Thursday's game against the Bears, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official team site reports.

Cosmi will miss his second consecutive game after undergoing surgery on his injured right thumb Sept. 4. As a result, veteran Cornelius Lucas will once again step in as Washington's starting right tackle in this Week 6 contest.

  • Commanders' Samuel Cosmi: Ruled out for Week 5

Cosmi (thumb) isn't expected to play in Sunday's game against the Titans, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.

Cosmi suffered a right thumb injury in Sunday's 25-10 loss to the Cowboys, and he'll now be sidelined indefinitely after he underwent surgery Wednesday. While the 6-foot-6, 309-pounder remains out, Cornelius Lucas will likely step in at right tackle for Washington.

  • Commanders' Samuel Cosmi: Getting thumb surgery

Cosmi is scheduled to undergo surgery Wednesday on his injured right thumb and is without a timeline for a return, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.

Cosmi suffered the injury in Sunday's loss to the Cowboys. Though Washington isn't expected to provide a timeline for Cosmi until his surgery is completed, he may have a tough time gaining clearance for the team's Week 5 matchup with the Titans. If Cosmi is unable to play, Cornelius Lucas will likely draw the start at right tackle.

  • Commanders' Samuel Cosmi: Picks up injury

Cosmi sustained a hand injury during Sunday's loss to the Cowboys that could sideline him for multiple weeks, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.

Standig added that Cosmi will undergo further evaluation for this issue Tuesday, leaving his exact timeline for a return up in the air. The second-year right tackle reprised his starting role in 2022 after being placed on season-ending IR last November. Cosmi's absence would leave the right side of Washington's offensive line even thinner after starting guard Trai Turner also aggravated a pre-existing knee injury during Sunday's loss.

Washington has activated Cosmi (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list.
