Adrian Martinez: Back with Niners' practice squad
San Francisco signed Martinez to its practice squad Wednesday, Kyle Madison of USA Today reports.
Just a day after being waived from the Jets' practice squad, Martinez is now back with the 49ers, who also cut him from their practice squad less than two weeks ago. With starter Brock Purdy and backup Mac Jones both healthy, Martinez is likely a couple injuries away from seeing any game action for the rest of the season.

Adrian Martinez: Waived from practice squad
The Jets waived Martinez from the practice squad Tuesday, Susanna Weir of the team's official site reports.
Martinez was signed to the practice squad and elevated to the active roster in Week 15 to serve as the No. 2 quarterback behind Brady Cook. The quarterback's waiving signals that at least one of either Tyrod Taylor (groin) or Justin Fields (knee) will be available for Sunday's game against the Saints. Martinez will now be placed on waivers and, if he clears, will become a free agent.

Adrian Martinez: Returns to practice squad

Martinez was elevated from the practice squad for Week 15 and served as the backup to starting quarterback Brady Cook in Sunday's 48-20 loss to the Jaguars while Tyrod Taylor (groin) and Justin Fields (knee) were unavailable. Martinez can still be elevated two more times this season.

Jets' Adrian Martinez: Slated for QB2 role Week 15
Martinez was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's game against the Jaguars.
Martinez signed with the Jets' practice squad Wednesday to help supplement the team's injury-riddled quarterback room. Both Tyrod Taylor (groin) and Justin Fields (knee) have been ruled out for Sunday's game, leaving undrafted rookie Brady Cook to serve as the Jets' QB1. Martinez was an undrafted free agent in 2023, and he made his NFL debut with the 49ers in Week 9 when he played one offensive snap. He should only see the field versus Jacksonville if Cook also goes down with injury during the game.

Adrian Martinez: Joins Jets' practice squad
Martinez signed with the Jets' practice squad Wednesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Martinez was cut by the Jets in August after spending the 2024 season on their practice squad. He had been with the 49ers organization for most of the 2025 campaign prior to getting cut from San Francisco's practice squad Tuesday. If neither Tyrod Taylor (groin) nor Justin Fields (knee) gain clearance to play Sunday against the Jaguars, Martinez would likely be elevated to back up undrafted rookie Brady Cook.

Martinez was cut from the 49ers' practice squad Tuesday.
Martinez has been on and off of the 49ers' practice squad this season, even appearing in one game with the team in Week 9 against the Giants. 49ers' Adrian Martinez: Signed to Niners' active roster
The 49ers signed Martinez from the practice squad to the active roster ahead of Thursday's game against the Rams.
Martinez was elevated from the 49ers' practice squad to the active roster for Week 2 and 3 to serve as Mac Jones' backup in the absence of Brock Purdy (toe). Purdy returned for Week 4 against the Jaguars but has been ruled out for Thursday's game in Los Angeles, so Martinez will once again be the QB2 while Jones makes his third start of the regular season.

Adrian Martinez: Reverts to practice squad
Martinez reverted to San Francisco's practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Martinez served as the 49ers' backup quarterback Sunday but didn't see the field despite Mac Jones aggravating a knee injury during the team's 16-15 win over the Cardinals. Brock Purdy (shoulder/toe) is expected to return to practice this week in a limited capacity and could make his return against the Jaguars in Week 4. Martinez could be elevated to the 49ers' active roster for a third consecutive week depending on the health of Purdy and Jones.

Adrian Martinez: Reverts to practice squad
Martinez reverted to the 49ers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction report.
With Brock Purdy (toe/shoulder) and Kurtis Rourke (knee) both unavailable for Sunday's game against the Saints, Martinez was elevated to the active roster to serve as the 49ers' backup quarterback behind Mac Jones. 49ers' Adrian Martinez: Elevated Saturday
Martinez was elevated from the 49ers' practice squad to the active roster Saturday.
Martinez signed with the 49ers' practice squad after failing to make the Jets' 53-man roster in late August. Brock Purdy (shoulder) and Kurtis Rourke (knee) are both expected to miss San Francisco's Week 2 matchup against the Saints, so Martinez's signing ensures depth at quarterback. He's expected to back up Mac Jones on Sunday.
