Giants' Deonte Banks: Has reduced defensive role in 2025
Banks played in 16 games (six starts) during the 2025 campaign, tallying 31 tackles and five defensed passes. He also returned 19 kickoffs for 622 yards and a touchdown.
After starting each of the first 29 regular-season games of his NFL career, Banks couldn't hold onto a starting role last season, as Paulson Adebo and Cor'Dale Flott (knee) emerged as the Giants' starting outside cornerbacks when healthy. That unsurprisingly resulted in Banks logging career-low marks in defensive snaps (457), tackles (31) and defensed passes (five). Banks did, however, get his first professional action as a kick returner, and the highlight of his campaign was a 95-yard kick-return TD in Week 17. Banks will be in the fourth and final year of his rookie contract in 2026, and given his reduction in defensive playing time last year, it seems unlikely New York will pick up his fifth-year option.

Giants' Deonte Banks: Cleared to play Sunday, could start
Banks (shoulder) does not have an injury designation for Sunday's Week 17 contest against the Raiders.
Banks managed a shoulder injury this week and was labeled as limited all three days of practice. However, he's avoided an injury designation and will be able to take the field Sunday. Banks could draw a start at cornerback if Cor'Dale Flott (knee, questionable) is unable to play.

Giants' Deonte Banks: Working through shoulder injury
Banks (shoulder) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Banks likely picked up the injury during the Giants' Week 16 loss to the Vikings, when he played 33 snaps (25 on defense, eight on special teams) without showing up on the box score otherwise. It doesn't appear to be a serious injury given his ability to log a limited practice Wednesday, and Banks would likely avoid an injury designation altogether for Sunday's game against the Raiders if he were to log a full practice by Friday.

Giants' Deonte Banks: Upgrades to full practice
Banks (hip) was a full participant in Friday's practice, Madelyn Burke of MSG Network reports.
Banks was limited in Thursday's session, and the full practice puts Banks in position to play Monday night against the Patriots. With Paulson Adebo (knee) out since Week 7, Banks has started each of the past four contests, seeing the vast majority of his snaps on the boundary.

Giants' Deonte Banks: Begins Week 13 limited
Banks (hip) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Banks was unable to play Week 12 due to a hip injury, but he's making progress ahead of Monday's road matchup against the Patriots. The top slot corner will have two more opportunities to officially upgrade to full practice reps in preparation for Monday Night Football.

Giants' Deonte Banks: Won't play vs. Detroit
Banks (hip) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Lions, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Banks popped up on Thursday's practice report as a limited participant due to a hip injury. He was unable to practice Friday, and the injury is severe enough for the third-year corner to miss his first game of the regular season. Dru Phillips is slated to see more snaps in the secondary Sunday in Banks' absence.

Giants' Deonte Banks: Questionable for Week 12
Banks (hip) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Lions, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
The 2023 first-round pick from Maryland downgraded from limited practice Thursday to a DNP on Friday, suggesting he's trending in the wrong direction ahead of Sunday's contest. Banks has appeared in all 11 of the Giants' games this season, recording 27 total tackles and three passes defensed. If inactive in Week 12, Dru Phillips will likely operate as the team's top slot corner.
