Manager Dusty Baker said Tuesday that the Astros hope to activate Abreu (back) from the injured list by Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
It was reported that Abreu still hadn't resumed swinging a bat as of Friday, so this would be a pretty speedy progression. Yainer Diaz has been operating as the primary first baseman recently.
