Alvarez (neck) will start in left field and bat second in Monday's game against the Phillies, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Alvarez was on the bench for each of the Astros' last three games due to neck discomfort, but the team's willingness to use him in the outfield rather than at designated hitter Monday implies confidence in his health moving forward. He'll put an 18-game on-base streak on the line as he draws back into the lineup Monday. During that stretch, Alvarez has slashed .364/.475/.652 with five home runs and 12 walks against 10 strikeouts.
