Roach was claimed off waivers by the A's on Monday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Roach will join the A's after being designated for assignment by the Tigers on Saturday. Roach has options remaining, so the A's were able to assign him to Triple-A Nashville, where he will provide depth during the team's minor-league postseason run.
