The Brewers purchased Woodruff's contract from Triple-A Colorado Springs and named him the starter for Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Cardinals.
Woodruff becomes the fourth top-10 prospect in the Brewers' organization in just over a week to receive the call to the big leagues, following in the footsteps of outfielder Brett Phillips, pitcher Josh Hader and outfielder Lewis Brinson. The 24-year-old's 4.12 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 63.1 innings at Triple-A don't look impressive on the surface, but considering that he pitches in one of the least forgiving home parks in the minors, Woodruff has acquitted himself quite well. The Brewers will see how Woodruff fares in his MLB debut before deciding whether to keep him around beyond Tuesday, but he could end up settling in as the club's fifth starter in the event Matt Garza (chest) isn't ready to come off the disabled list by the weekend.
