The Cardinals placed Wetherholt on the 10-day IL Sunday with right wrist tendinitis.
Wetherholt will land on the injured list for the first time in his career. The 23-year-old rookie has been struggling over his last 30 games, batting .204/.323/.292 with two homers and eight RBI over 131 plate appearances. The Cardinals elevated Cesar Prieto from Triple-A Memphis to replace Wetherholt on the 26-man roster.
