Mariners pitcher James Paxton took a loss Wednesday, giving up three earned runs on four hits and one walk in 6 2/3 innings and striking out eight in his team's 5-0 defeat against the Angels.

Paxton (6-3) was excellent through most of the start, allowing only two hits in six scoreless innings to open the game. Then came the seventh, when Paxton gave up a run and left the game with two men on and two outs only to see the next pitcher in serve up a home run and tack two more runs onto Paxton's line. He owns a 2.06 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 54:20 K:BB ratio in 65 2/3 innings. Paxton is slated to face the Blue Jays Monday.
