  • Mariners' Emerson Hancock: X-rays return negative

Hancock had X-rays come back negative on his palm and middle finger after leaving Sunday's start against the Giants, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Hancock was struck by a comebacker during the first frame Sunday and was pulled from the contest with two outs in the second inning. It appears as though the right-hander escaped with a bruise and should avoid a trip to the injured list. If the Mariners want to give Hancock some extra time to recover coming out of the All-Star break, they could simply slot him into the back end of the rotation rather than have him pitch in the first series of the second half against the Giants next weekend.

  • Mariners' Emerson Hancock: Exits with apparent injury

Hancock was removed from Sunday's start against the Rays with an apparent hand injury, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports.

The right-hander remained in the game after being struck in the hand by a comebacker during the opening frame, but he was lifted after issuing a two-out walk in the second inning. The specifics of the injury aren't clear, but the Mariners could provide more information in the near future. For now, the 27-year-old should be considered day-to-day.

  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Heading to bench Sunday

Raley is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.

With southpaw Ian Seymour on the bump for the Rays, the left-handed-hitting Raley will take a seat for the first time since June 30. Weston Wilson will get the nod in right field in place of Raley, who went 5-for-30 with a 0:11 BB:K while starting the Mariners' first nine games of the month.

  • Mariners' Dominic Canzone: On bench for first-half finale

Canzone is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.

Mariners president Jerry Dipoto indicated Tuesday that Canzone would no longer operate as a platoon player, but he'll still hit the bench Sunday while lefty Ian Seymour takes the mound for Tampa Bay. Cal Raleigh is resting his legs as the designated hitter while Mitch Garver starts behind the plate.

  • Mariners' Colt Emerson: Taking seat Sunday

Emerson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.

The rookie shortstop has gone 3-for-25 with 12 strikeouts through his first eight contests and of July and will hit the bench Sunday for the second time in Seattle's past three games. Barring an appearance off the bench. Emerson will close the first half of the season with seven homers, three steals, 20 RBI, 17 runs and a .201/.275/.396 slash line in 45 games.

  • Mariners' Logan Gilbert: Yields four runs in Saturday's loss

Gilbert (7-6) took the loss against the Rays on Saturday, allowing four runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out five across 6.2 innings.

Gilbert was one hit shy from matching the career-worst mark that he set for hits allowed in August of 2022 against the Yankees. He limited the Rays to two runs through six innings and was in line for the quality start, but he allowed two baserunners in the seventh before being pulled, both of whom scored on a three-run homer by Ryan Vilade. Gilbert has yielded four earned runs in two of his last three starts and enters the All-Star break with a 3.32 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 119:24 K:BB across 114 innings.

  • Mariners' Trevor Lucas: Nabbed in Round 4

The Mariners selected Lucas with the No. 129 overall pick in the 2026 First-Year Player Draft.

Lucas was unranked by MLB Pipeline coming into the night, but he had a strong statistical season for UNC Wilmington. The third baseman slashed .312/.429/.556 with 12 homers, nine steals and more walks than strikeouts in 58 games this spring.

  • Mariners' Nathan Taylor: Third-round pick by Seattle

The Mariners selected Taylor with the No. 101 overall pick in the 2026 First-Year Player Draft.

At Cincinnati, the 6-foot-5 right-hander was all-Big 12 in each of his three seasons. The slider is likely his best pitch. Taylor also showed the ability to shoulder a heavy workload during his collegiate career.

  • Mariners' Jake Brown: Going to Seattle

The Mariners selected Brown with the No. 65 overall pick in the 2026 First-Year Player Draft.

A 6-foot-2 lefty hitter from LSU, Brown was an even better high school pitching prospect coming out of Louisiana than Kade Anderson a few years ago, but he now projects as a potential 20/20 center fielder. He slashed .309/.404/.642 with 16 home runs, nine steals and a 16.5 percent strikeout rate as a junior.

  • Mariners' Ace Reese: Lands with Mariners in first round

The Mariners selected Reese with the No. 24 overall pick in the 2026 First-Year Player Draft.

A power-over-hit left-handed slugger from Mississippi State, Reese most recently played third base but could slide to the bottom of the defensive spectrum. He measures in at a sturdy 6-foot-4, 220 pounds with a somewhat lumbering gait, but he has a chance to provide enough offensive impact to make up for his poor athleticism and defense. Reese hit 45 homers in 119 games over the past two seasons after transferring from Houston after his freshman season. He logged an .846 OPS with a wood bat last summer in the Cape Cod League and he had an OPS over 1.100 against righties and lefties this spring. There's a chance his aggressive approach gets exposed at the higher levels of the minors, but Reese could be an everyday first baseman/designated hitter in a couple years if his swing decisions are adequate.

  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Tagged with loss Friday

Castillo (3-8) took the loss Friday against the Rays, allowing four runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out four batters across five innings.

Castillo allowed three homers and has dropped three of his last five starts. However, the veteran hurler has given up two or fewer runs in seven of his last nine outings, so he's been pitching well lately, all things considered. Castillo saw his season ERA rise to 4.93 after this start, but he has a more respectable 3.90 ERA in six starts and 32.1 innings since the beginning of June.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Not expected to play this weekend

Rodriguez (concussion) is not expected to be activated from the 7-day injured list for this weekend's series against the Rays, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports.

Rodriguez is eligible to come off the injured list Friday, but he's already not in the lineup for the series opener against the Rays, and it sounds like he's going to take the entire weekend set along with the All-Star break to rest up before the second half of the season. Luke Raley is starting in center field and batting sixth for Seattle against right-hander Nick Martinez on Friday.

  • Mariners' Colt Emerson: Not in lineup Friday

Emerson is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Rays.

It appears to be a routine day off for the 20-year-old infielder after making 15 consecutive starts. Emerson is slashing just .206/.282/.404 with seven long balls, 19 RBI, 17 runs scored, three stolen bases and a 13:54 BB:K across his first 156 big-league plate appearances. With Emerson getting the night off, J.P. Crawford is manning shortstop and leading off for the Mariners, while Buddy Kennedy bats ninth and plays third base.
