Mariners reliever Carson Smith earned his first career save in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Rays. Smith tossed a perfect ninth inning, recording one strikeout in the process.

Usual closer Fernando Rodney endured two rough outings in a row, so manager Lloyd McClendon opted to send out the young Smith to close out Saturday's game. Smith has allowed just one run over his last 12 appearances and owns a highly-respectable 1.08 ERA this season.
