The Marlins optioned Blalock to Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday.

A spot on the active roster was needed to accommodate the return of Pete Fairbanks (hand). Blalock made two three-inning relief appearances during his brief stint with the Marlins, yielding a total of two runs with a 6:2 K:BB.
