Gillespie was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Friday, Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald reports.
Gillespie had been playing in a limited role during his time with the team, and will now likely go back to Triple-A New Orleans. The 32-year-old went 12-for-51 with five RBI for the Marlins, and was only hitting .204 with New Orleans earlier this season before he was called up.
