The Marlins designated Rivera for assignment Monday.
Rivera had seen his playing time drying up lately and with the arrival of Connor Norby, he's now off the roster altogether. The 28-year-old slashed just .214/.294/.269 with one home run in 96 games with Miami and would seem to stand a good chance of passing through waivers.
