Rangers starting pitcher Martin Perez took the mound Wednesday at home against Houston needing a win to help get the Rangers into the playoffs as the Wild Card team.
Perez got the Rangers their win with seven strong innings of work. He allowed three runs over his seven innings of work, all coming in the fourth inning as the Rangers fell behind briefly. He was able to settle down long enough to get the 7-3 win, his 10th of the season.
Perez struck out eight batters and walked one, while allowing six hits in what will likely be the final start of his rookie season. Perez is 10-5 with a 3.55 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 119 innings of work. His 19th start is expected to be his last, unless the Rangers rally to make the playoffs.
