The Mets claimed Oliva off waivers from the Giants on Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Oliva went 1-for-7 for the Giants before suffering a hamate bone fracture and then slashed just .241/.288/.315 in 14 games with Triple-A Sacramento after returning. He'll report to Triple-A Syracuse, where he will give the Mets an experienced outfielder capable of playing all three spots on the grass.
