The Phillies optioned Phillips to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
After starting his MLB career with a 1.80 ERA and 19:2 K:BB over his four outings, Phillips has turned in a 13.91 ERA and 2.27 WHIP across 11 innings over his last three starts. He'll go back down to Triple-A to iron out the kinks, with the Phillies calling up Tyler Gilbert from Lehigh Valley in a corresponding move to provide a fresh arm out of the bullpen. Ranger Suarez (back) is closing in on a return from the injured list and should fill the spot in the rotation that had belonged to Phillips.
