Sale signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Wednesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
A first-round pick by the Rays in 2010, Sale was suspended numerous times in the minors and has been out of affiliated baseball since 2014. He made a return via independent ball in the Atlantic League last season and hit .284/.394/.593 with 34 homers, 22 doubles and 104 RBI in 120 games, and he'll now make another attempt at cracking the big leagues. The 30-year-old was drafted as an outfielder but has since transitioned to third base.
