Rangers' Ezequiel Duran: Covers second base
Duran started at second base for the injured Josh Smith (glute) and went 3-for-4 with a walk, a triple, an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 7-4 loss to the Yankees.
Duran, a versatile fill-in at various positions, should see regular turns at second base with Smith landing on the 10-day injured list. Even before the injury, Duran had eaten into Smith's hold on the second base. The Rangers also called up Justin Foscue to help with second base, but Duran has slashed .301/.370/.452 with eight extra-base hits, three steals, nine RBI and 11 runs over 82 plate appearances.

Rangers' Jacob deGrom: Tagged for six runs Tuesday
DeGrom (2-2) took the loss Tuesday against the Yankees, allowing six runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out seven over 6.1 innings.
DeGrom was hit hard early, surrendering three runs over the first two innings, including a two-run homer by Ryan McMahon. He later gave up another long ball to Jazz Chisholm in the sixth as New York continued to square him up. The six runs and two homers allowed were both season highs for the veteran right-hander, though he also recorded an out in the seventh inning for the first time this year. Prior to Tuesday, deGrom had allowed just four runs across his previous five starts. Fantasy managers can still take comfort in the strikeout production, as he recorded seven punchouts for the fourth time in seven starts this season. DeGrom now owns a 3.11 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and a 47:8 K:BB across 37.2 innings and is scheduled to face the Cubs next, this weekend.

Rangers' Justin Foscue: Elevated to big-league roster
The Rangers recalled Foscue from Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday.
Foscue has gotten off to a strong start at Round Rock this season, slashing .287/.407/.426 with a pair of home runs and a 22:22 BB:K over 30 contests. The 27-year-old is just 3-for-51 at the plate during his limited big-league opportunities, but he could see a bit of action at second base while Josh Smith (glute) is sidelined.

Rangers' Josh Smith: Sidelined by glute strain
The Rangers placed Smith on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a right glute strain.
It's unclear when Smith was injured, as he played all nine innings of the Rangers' last game Sunday against the Tigers. He will be eligible for activation May 15, though the club did not reveal a timetable for Smith's return to action. Ezequiel Duran will serve as the Rangers' primary second baseman while Smith is shelved.

Rangers' Brandon Nimmo: Hitting bench Tuesday
Nimmo (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees.
The 33-year-old has been battling a lingering hamstring injury and returned to the lineup Sunday after missing one game, but he's now on the bench after Monday's team off day. It hasn't been reported that Nimmo has suffered a setback, but it seems likely that he's still managing the injury to some extent.

Rangers' Jack Leiter: Strikes out 10 in loss
Leiter (1-3) allowed five runs on five hits and a walk while striking out 10 over 6.2 innings to take the loss Sunday versus the Tigers.
Leiter threw 73 of 100 pitches for strikes, but the Tigers were able to string some offense together against him from the fifth inning on. He's now allowed at least three runs in each of his last five outings, but he was able to limit walks in this game. For the season, Leiter has a 5.45 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 43:13 K:BB through 38 innings across seven starts. The 26-year-old right-hander has strikeout upside and strong potential if he can keep the walks down. He also needs to work on the homers, as he's given up four of them over his last two starts. Leiter's next start is projected to come at home versus the Cubs.

Rangers' Alejandro Osuna: Heading to bench Sunday
Osuna is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.
The Tigers are opening the game with a lefty (Tyler Holton) and could call upon another southpaw in Brant Hurter to cover multiple innings out of the bullpen, so the left-handed-hitting Osuna will be left out of the lineup Sunday. Andrew McCutchen will pick up the start in left field in place of Osuna, who has gone 4-for-16 (.250 average) with one double, two RBI, two runs and a 4:4 BB:K in eight games since being called up from Triple-A Round Rock on April 22.

Rangers' Joc Pederson: Moving to bench in Nimmo's return
Pederson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.
After sitting out Saturday's 5-1 loss due to a hamstring injury, Brandon Nimmo will check back into the lineup Sunday as the Rangers' designated hitter, which leaves no room in the lineup for Pederson. With an 0-for-7 showing at the plate over the first two contests of the series in Detroit, Pederson is now batting a lowly .205 on the season.

Rangers' Danny Jansen: Taking seat Sunday
Jansen is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.
Jansen will get a breather Sunday after he made starts at catcher in the first two games of the series. Kyle Higashioka will step in behind the plate and will form a battery with starting pitcher Jack Leiter.

Rangers' Brandon Nimmo: Back in action Sunday
Nimmo (hamstring) is batting leadoff as the designated hitter Sunday against the Tigers.
The veteran outfielder was held out of Saturday's lineup after exiting Friday due to a nagging hamstring issue, but he'll return for the series finale in a non-defensive role. The Rangers have a scheduled team day off Monday, and Nimmo's quick return to the lineup rather than stacking days off indicates the injury isn't a serious concern.

Rangers' Kumar Rocker: Chased early in third loss
Rocker (1-3) took the loss Saturday against the Tigers, allowing five runs on six hits and zero walks in two innings. He struck out two.
Rocker never quite found his rhythm Saturday, throwing a season-low two innings and 43 pitches. Although he didn't issue a free pass for the first time this year, the right-hander fanned a season-low two and gave up a season-high five runs. Rocker will carry a lackluster 4.71 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 24:10 K:BB across 28.2 innings into a tough matchup against the Cubs for his next scheduled outing.
