Rays pitcher Brad Boxberger notched his 39th save with a scoreless ninth inning to secure a 4-2 victory over the Marlins on Tuesday. He also struck out a batter.
It was the fifth consecutive save for the hard-throwing Boxberger, who had started September by faltering in two of his first three save opportunities.
Boxberger has now posted four consecutive scoreless outings and has enjoyed a breakout season in the closer role, generating an impressive 10.77 K/9 rate in the process. While he has had his share of hiccups out of the bullpen over the course of the year, the 27-year-old appears to have the ability to take his game up another notch with some offseason refinements.
