The Red Sox designated Rivera for assignment on Monday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
The 23-year-old lefty made his big-league debut last season for Boston, logging a 6.30 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 10:6 K:BB across 10 regular-season innings. He ended the campaign on the 60-day injured list with a strained lower back.
