Freeman (elbow) signed a minor-league contract with the Royals on Thursday.
Freeman missed the entire 2021 campaign after he underwent Tommy John surgery in September of 2020, and it's not yet clear whether he'll be ready to pitch during spring training. The southpaw logged just seven innings in the majors between the 2019 and 2020 campaigns, but he could still compete for a big-league roster spot once healthy.
