Hanifee was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Tuesday.
Hanifee made his major-league debut this past season at age 25, but he gave up three earned runs in five innings of relief and posted a 4.38 ERA across 90.1 innings with Triple-A Toledo. He is now off the 40-man roster in Detroit.
