Montero is traveling to his native Venezuela for the birth of his child, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Montero has not yet been placed on the paternity leave list, but that could happen Saturday when Andrew Sears is added to the roster to make a spot start. With Jack Flaherty (forearm) due back next week, Montero could spend the stretch run in the bullpen.
