Nationals broadcaster Dan Kolko announced during MASN's broadcast of Sunday's game against the Angels that Parra has elected to retire and will join Washington's front office as a special assistant, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Parra's decision to end his playing career doesn't come as a major surprise after he opted not to report to Triple-A Rochester when he failed to win a spot on the Nationals' Opening Day roster. He was later released May 1, and after pondering his options on the open market, Parra ultimately chose to hang up his cleats. He'll retire with a lifetime .275 average, two Gold Glove Awards and one World Series ring, which he won as a member of the Nationals in 2019.

Parra will not be a part of the Nationals' Opening Day roster. Parra was merely in camp as a non-roster invitee, and the Nationals evidently didn't see a spot for him even as a veteran leader off the bench. It's not a particularly surprising development, as he hit .237/.292/.351 in 53 games for the team last season.

Parra signed a minor-league contract with the Nationals on Sunday that includes an invitation to major-league camp, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports. Parra has played in 142 games for the Nationals between the 2019 and 2021 campaigns, and he's now back with the organization once again. The veteran outfielder hit .237/.292/.351 with two home runs, 13 runs and 10 RBI in 107 plate appearances last season.

Parra (knee) was activated off the injured list Saturday, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports. Parra will wind up missing just shy of a month with right knee inflammation. He's unlikely to play more than a small role over the final two games of the year, as he's not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Red Sox. Josh Rogers (hamstring) hit the injured list to clear a roster spot.

Parra was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with right knee inflammation, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports. Parra underwent surgery on the same knee late last year and has recently been experiencing discomfort, and he'll be sidelined for at least the next 10 days. Josh Rogers, who was recalled from Triple-A Rochester for Saturday's doubleheader and started Game 2, will remain with the big-league club and take Parra's roster spot.
