  • Nationals' Brad Lord: Shelved by side tightness

The Nationals placed Lord on the 15-day injured list Thursday with left side tightness.

Lord last pitched Sunday, when he was rocked for five runs over 1.1 innings. He could return when his 15 days are up or close to it if he is indeed merely dealing with tightness, but the Nationals could still need to send Lord for imaging to see if he has a strain.

Littell will operate as a bulk reliever for the Nationals in Friday's game versus the Yankees, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.

Lefty Carson Palmquist will get the ball first as the Nats' opener. Littell has made 12 starts and six bulk-relief appearances this season and has fared much better in the latter role, holding a 3.03 ERA and 17:7 K:BB over 29.2 innings.

Griffin (10-2) earned the win against the Astros on Wednesday, allowing one run on five hits and no walks with nine strikeouts over seven innings.

Griffin allowed a run in the fifth inning but was otherwise untouchable, generating a whopping 22 swinging strikes on 99 pitches. The 30-year-old will head into the All-Star break having allowed exactly one run in seven straight outings while recording nine strikeouts in three of his past four. He owns a 2.77 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 109:26 K:BB across 110.1 innings in what has been one of the biggest surprise campaigns of 2026.

  • Nationals' Andrew Alvarez: Gives up five runs in loss

Alvarez (2-2) took the loss against the Astros on Tuesday, allowing five runs on four hits and five walks while striking out three across 5.2 innings.

He ended up pitching five-plus innings for the first time this season, but he also gave up a season-high five runs in the process. The Nationals have an off day Thursday, so Tuesday's outing figures to be Alvarez's last turn in the rotation before the All-Star break.
