• Marwin Gonzalez: Lands deal with Japanese team

  Gonzalez signed a contract Friday with the Orix Buffaloes of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Gonzalez will get $1.5 million to head overseas. The veteran utility player put up just a .586 OPS over the last three seasons in the majors for four different teams.

  Gonzalez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's win over the Rangers. Gonzalez took Jonathan Hernandez deep for a solo shot in the top of the eighth inning, extending the Yankees' lead to 2-0. The homer was his sixth of the season and third since Sept. 5. Gonzalez is now batting .182 with six home runs, 17 RBI, 20 runs and three stolen bases over 84 games with the Yankees this year.

  Gonzalez (head) is starting at third base and batting eighth Sunday versus the Red Sox. Gonzalez will start for the second time in the past three games after he missed some time after he was hit in the head by an errant throw last weekend. The 33-year-old has a .147/.256/.324 slash line through 14 contests in September.

• Yankees' Marwin Gonzalez: Errant throw hits head

  Gonzalez exited Saturday's game against the Brewers after a throw from the catcher to the pitcher during his at-bat hit him in the head, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. It's been a rough couple days for the veteran utility man, who also exited Friday's game early due to dizziness. This time around, Brewers catcher Victor Caratini inadvertently struck him in the side of the head while attempting to throw the ball back to Brandon Woodruff. It's unclear if Gonzalez is dealing with a concussion, but the Yankees were evidently concerned enough to remove him from the game.

  Gonzalez (illness) is starting Saturday's game against the Brewers. Gonzalez exited Friday's matchup against the Brewers but will start at first base and bat ninth a day later. Over his last four games, he's gone 3-for-14 with a home run, three RBI and two runs.
