Cahill was let go by the Mets on Saturday. Cahill signed a minor-league deal in May with hopes of potentially providing depth to an injured Mets rotation. After putting up a disappointing 6.52 ERA and 2.30 WHIP over 19.1 innings with Triple-A Syracuse, the organization deemed Cahill expendable. If another team decides to afford the veteran an opportunity, it will almost certainly be in the form of another minor-league deal.

Cahill (foot) agreed to a minor-league contract with the Mets on Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The 34-year-old missed the final two months of last season while recovering from several fractures and torn ligaments in his right foot, and he was unable to land with a team during the offseason. Prior to the injury, Cahill appeared in nine games for the Pirates in 2021 and had a 6.57 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 32:14 K:BB over 37 innings. He could eventually provide rotation depth with Jacob deGrom (shoulder), Max Scherzer (oblique) and Tylor Megill (biceps) all currently sidelined with injuries.

Cahill (calf/foot) was re-examined recently and found to have several fractures and torn ligaments in his right foot, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that the right-hander won't resume baseball activities for 8-to-12 weeks, so he should be sidelined for the remainder of the season. Cahill also missed significant time earlier in the year due to a calf injury, and he recorded a 6.57 ERA and 1.51 WHIP in 37 innings across nine appearances (eight starts) in 2021.

Cahill (calf) recently suffered a fractured right foot and will be shut down from throwing, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Cahill had been preparing to throw a live batting practice session, but he slipped and fell on the dugout steps recently and is now facing an indefinite shutdown. The right-hander had been dealing with a calf strain, and it's not yet clear when he could return to game action following his foot injury.

Cahill (calf) will throw a live batting practice session in the near future, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Cahill resumed playing catch in early July, and Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday the right-hander is lining up to face live hitters soon. The 33-year-old will be sidelined until at least mid-August while he's on the 60-day injured list, but he's making progress in his recovery.
