Beckham elected free agency Monday after clearing waivers. Rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A St. Paul after the Twins designated him for assignment Aug. 26, Beckham will get a head start on finding a new organization ahead of the 2023 season. The 32-year-old didn't find much success in his brief stint in the majors with Minnesota earlier this season, getting on base just twice in 25 plate appearances over 12 games.

The Twins outrighted Beckham to Triple-A St. Paul on Monday. Beckham was dropped from the Twins' 40-man roster last week, when Minnesota needed to open up a spot for outfielder Kyle Garlick, who was reinstated from the injured list. During his month-long stint in the big leagues, Beckham appeared in 12 games and went 2-for-25 with nine strikeouts. The 32-year-old looks like he'll stick around in the organization as a depth infielder at Triple-A.

Beckham was designated for assignment by the Twins on Friday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Beckham was called up to provide additional depth at the end of July, but he accomplished very little in nearly a month with the Twins. He got into 12 games, going 2-for-25 at the plate with nine strikeouts. With Kyle Garlick (ribs) back from the injured list, Beckham is being cut loose. Given that his recent unsuccessful stint represents his only big-league action since 2019, he's unlikely to generate much interest on the waiver wire.

Beckham's contract was purchased from Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. The 32-year-old journeyman infielder hit .413/.483/.579 with five home runs in 33 games at Triple-A. Miguel Sano and Max Kepler each landed on the 10-day injured list, so Beckham was an emergency depth add for Minnesota.

Triple-A St. Paul reinstated Beckham (quadriceps) from its 7-day injured list Tuesday. Beckham is ready to make his season debut with the Twins' top minor-league affiliate after he had been sidelined since late March with the left quad strain. The 32-year-old recently completed a two-game rehab assignment at Single-A Fort Myers, where he went 2-for-7 with a home run and two walks.
