The Rockies announced Monday that Collins has elected to opt out of the 2020 season. Collins had been added to the Rockies' 60-man player pool in late June and was present for summer camp, but he failed to win a spot on the season-opening 30-man roster. Rather than waiting around at the Rockies' alternative training site for a potential callup to the big club, Collins will remove himself from the 60-man pool and pack it in for 2020. He's scheduled to become a free agent during the offseason.

Collins will be a part of the Rockies' 60-man summer camp. Collins was in camp on a minor-league contract prior to the shutdown. He has plenty of big-league experience and could be called upon to pitch in low-leverage situations this season, particularly if and when injuries hit the Rockies' primary relievers.

Collins signed a minor-league contract with the Rockies on Wednesday. Collins made nine relief appearances for the Cubs in 2019, but he spent most of the season with Triple-A Iowa, where he recorded a 4.67 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 37:16 K:BB across 27 innings. The 30-year-old served as the Royals' primary set-up man during 2013 and will have the opportunity to make an impression on his fourth major-league coaching staff this spring.

Collins was outrighted to Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports. Collins, who was designated for assignment last week, will report to Iowa after passing through waivers untouched. The southpaw owns a 3.12 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 4:3 K:BB in 8.2 innings with the Cubs this season.

Collins was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Friday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports. The Cubs selected Collins' contract earlier this week but he ended up spending only a couple days on the 40-man roster. Left-hander Derek Holland was acquired from San Francisco in a corresponding move.
