Putnam was released by the White Sox on Friday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Putnam underwent Tommy John surgery prior to the 2018 season before missing the 2019 campaign with a hamstring injury, but he returned to the White Sox on a minor-league deal in March. While the right-hander wasn't expected to make the major-league roster to begin the season, he'll now be a free agent.

Putnam joined the White Sox on a minor-league deal Tuesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Putnam isn't a candidate for an Opening Day roster spot, as he's joined Chicago's minor-league camp. The 32-year-old missed all of last season due to a hamstring injury.

The Red Sox reassigned Putnam (hamstring) to their minor-league camp Monday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. Putnam missed the entire 2018 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, but it was the hamstring issue that prevented him from making an appearance during the Grapefruit League. He'll likely stick around at extended spring training to rehab the injury before reporting to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Putnam continues to nurse a hamstring injury and isn't close to pitching in a game, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Putnam suffered the injury while participating in a drill at the beginning of March, although it's unclear as to when he might return to the mound. "He's feeling better," manager Alex Cora stated. "He's playing catch. He hasn't been able to get back on the mound." While Putnam wasn't expected to win a roster spot entering camp, this injury will make doing so nearly impossible. He should begin the 2019 campaign with Triple-A Pawtucket when healthy.
