  • Angels' George Klassen: Exits with trainer

Klassen was removed from his start Saturday against the Reds with an apparent injury, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Klassen coughed up five earned runs on five hits and five walks while striking out two batters over two-plus innings before one of the Angels' trainers came out to get him in the third, seemingly examining the right-hander's fingers. The Angels should provide more details on his injury in the near future.

  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Scheduled for bullpen Saturday

Rodriguez (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Rodriguez opened the season on the 15-day injured list due to right shoulder inflammation. He has steadily increased his throwing distance off flat ground, but Saturday will mark his first throwing session on the mound. Rodriguez will likely need to throw multiple bullpen sessions before being cleared to embark on a rehab assignment.

  • Angels' Jeimer Candelario: Designated for assignment

The Angels designated Candelario for assignment Saturday.

Candelario won a spot on the Angels' big-league roster out of spring training but has since gone just 2-for-18 at the plate with three runs scored and eight strikeouts. He'll be jettisoned from the active and 40-man rosters to make room for Vaughn Grissom (wrist), who returned from the injured list Saturday.

  • Angels' Vaughn Grissom: Returns from IL

The Angels reinstated Grissom (wrist) from the 10-day injured list Saturday.

Grissom has been on the injured list for the first few weeks of the season due to a sprained left wrist, but he's been playing rehab games in Triple-A since March 31. The 25-year-old logged a base hit in each of his nine minor-league contests, finishing his assignment 12-for-35 (.343) with five RBI and a run scored. Now fully healthy, he'll make his season debut at second base and bat sixth against the Reds on Saturday, though Oswald Peraza and Adam Frazier remain in the mix for playing time at the keystone. Jeimer Candelario was DFA'd in a corresponding move.

  • Angels' Jorge Soler: Hits grand slam Friday

Soler went 2-for-5 with a gland slam, a double, an additional run scored and two strikeouts in Friday's win over the Reds.

Soler continues to play every day since he's appealing the seven-game suspension he was handed after participating in a brawl against Atlanta on Tuesday, and the veteran slugger hasn't slowed down despite the threat of the suspension. Soler is riding a six-game hitting streak, but perhaps more impressive is the fact that he's gone yard in three straight contests dating back to Tuesday. Soler is hitting .400 with a 1.378 OPS, three homers, nine RBI and six runs scored during that streak, although he's also posted a 7:1 K:BB in that span.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Launches fifth homer of season

Neto went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Friday's win over the Reds.

Neto blasted his fifth long ball of the season in the top of the fourth inning, and the star shortstop continues to be a driving force on offense for the Angels. This two-hit performance extended his hitting streak to six games, and he's hit safely in all but one of his appearances since the beginning of April. In eight April contests, Neto is slashing .294/.333/.588 with a double, three homers, five RBI, six runs scored and a 11:2 K:BB across 36 plate appearances.

  • Angels' Jack Kochanowicz: Dominant outing Friday

Kochanowicz (2-0) earned the win Friday against the Reds after allowing one run on two hits and four walks while striking out two across seven innings.

Kochanowicz tossed only 53 of his 95 pitches for strikes, which might explain his 2:4 K:BB, but he limited the damage to just one run while posting his first quality start of the season. Kochanowicz allowed six runs (five earned) across four innings in his season debut at Houston on March 29, but he's bounced back admirably -- he's allowed just one run on 12.2 innings over his last two starts while posting a 0.95 WHIP despite the 4.3 BB/9. The 26-year-old righty should face a tougher matchup in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for next week against the Yankees.

  • Angels' Joey Lucchesi: Returns to Halos

Lucchesi signed a minor-league contract with the Angels on Thursday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Lucchesi elected free agency after clearing waivers Tuesday, but he'll end up back in the Angels organization after testing his free-agent value. The 32-year-old gave up two earned runs over 2.1 innings during his first three appearances with the Halos but has the potential to turn things around after finishing the 2025 campaign with a 3.76 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in San Francisco.

  • Angels' George Klassen: Receiving another start

Klassen is slated to start Saturday's game against the Reds in Cincinnati.

Summoned from Triple-A Salt Lake last weekend to make his MLB debut, Klassen faltered in his first start with the Angels, failing to escape the third inning while yielding two earned runs on three hits and five walks. Though the 24-year-old righty's control left much to be desired, he displayed lively stuff, recording four punchouts while finishing with a strong 30.1 percent called-strike-plus-whiff rate. With Ryan Johnson (illness) recently joining Grayson Rodriguez (shoulder) and Alek Manoah (finger) on the injured list, Klassen will get at least one more chance to prove that he's worthy of a spot in the big-league rotation.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Struggles with loud contact

Detmers (0-1) took the loss Wednesday against Atlanta, allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits and two walks in 4.1 innings. He struck out four.

Hard contact plagued the left-hander Wednesday, as four of his knocks allowed went for extra bases. Detmers was never quite able to settle in either, giving up at least one run in each of the first three frames before being chased from the outing at 92 pitches with one out in the fifth. Detmers' return to the rotation this year has yielded mixed results -- he holds a 4.60 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 17:6 K:BB over 15.2 innings -- and things won't get much easier with a tough matchup against the Yankees looming for his next start.

  • Angels' Jorge Soler: Appealing seven-game suspension

Soler was suspended seven games by Major League Baseball on Wednesday for his involvement in a brawl during Tuesday's game with Atlanta, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Soler is appealing the suspension.

Soler charged the mound and traded punches with Atlanta pitcher Reynaldo Lopez after high inside pitch from Lopez in the fifth inning. Earlier in the game, Soler homered in his first plate appearance and was hit by a pitch by Lopez his second time up. The 34-year-old Soler will continue to be available to play for the Angels as the appeals process plays out.

  • Angels' Robert Stephenson: Opts for another elbow surgery

The Angels announced that Stephenson underwent ligament and flexor repair surgery on his right elbow Wednesday and is likely to miss the remainder of the season, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Stephenson was placed on the 60-day injured list prior to Opening Day due to right elbow inflammation, an issue that cropped up during spring training. He had initially been eased into workouts during camp after he had experienced symptoms of thoracic outlet syndrome over the winter. While Stephenson was able to avoid another UCL reconstruction surgery after previously requiring the procedure in May 2024, the 33-year-old right-hander is nonetheless on track to miss his second full season since signing a three-year, $33 million deal with the Angels following the 2023 campaign. The contract includes a $2.5 million club option for 2027, so the Angels could still look to bring him back next season if they're satisfied with where he stands in the rehab process.

  • Angels' Alek Manoah: Tossing bullpen sessions

Manoah (finger) has been throwing bullpen sessions with all of his pitches at the Angels' spring complex in Arizona, MLB.com reports.

Manoah landed on the injured list in late March after his fingernail fell off following a Cactus League start. He's back to throwing, though it's unclear what the Angels will do with the veteran hurler once he's ready to return to game action. Manoah struggled mightily during spring play, posting a 9.39 ERA and 2.41 WHIP with a 13:14 K:BB over 15.1 innings spanning five outings.

  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Could throw from mound within week

Rodriguez (shoulder) said Tuesday that he hopes to begin throwing from a mound within the next week, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Rodriguez has been dealing with right shoulder inflammation and "dead arm" since mid-March. He's been throwing up to 150 feet and stated Tuesday that he thinks he'll be ready to toss a bullpen session within the next week. Even if he's able to do so, the right-handed hurler is probably still multiple weeks away from a return, but he does seem to be making progress. "The arm is definitely getting strong quick," Rodriguez said Tuesday. "When I feel like I'm ready to throw the ball as hard as I want to throw it, that'll let me know. But with how I've been progressing the last week to two weeks, it's really given me a lot of confidence."

  • Angels' Kirby Yates: May be headed for rehab stint

Yates (knee) threw 26 pitches to hitters Tuesday and could next begin a minor-league rehab stint, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Yates said his body "felt good" during the session but acknowledged that his legs aren't quite up to speed yet. "The hard part is, I didn't get a chance to do anything with my legs for 12-to-13 days. So we're trying to play catch-up with that. The legs aren't as fresh as I'd probably like them to be. But, overall, I think it was good," Yates said after throwing. Manager Kurt Suzuki echoed that sentiment, saying, "I thought he looked fine. Obviously, first time in a while throwing to hitters, so it's going to take time. Build his stamina, his legs back up, get his legs under him again... But hopefully we'll see him sooner than later." Yates said he's hoping his next step will be a rehab assignment with a minor-league squad but stated that he's going to talk that over with coaches and trainers Wednesday.
