Top Angels News

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Goes yard in three-hit effort

Neto went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a double, an additional RBI and an additional run scored in Sunday's 7-5 loss to the Red Sox.

With two outs in the ninth inning, Neto turned on an Aroldis Chapman fastball for a solo homer to cap off a three-hit performance for the shortstop. Over his past 18 games, Neto is slashing .271/.320/.614 with six homers, 13 RBI and 13 runs scored. The 25-year-old has put together another solid campaign in 2026, slashing .231/.323/.458 with 19 homers, 45 RBI, 61 runs scored and 11 stolen bases across 89 games, though he's striking out at a hefty 31.8 percent clip.

  • Angels' Jo Adell: Tallies three hits in loss

Adell went 3-for-4 with two RBI in Sunday's 7-5 loss to the Red Sox.

Adell tallied three singles, with his knocks in the first and eighth innings each plating a run. It was a much-needed performance for the right fielder, who entered Sunday's game 0-for-13 over his previous four contests. After launching 37 homers last season, the 27-year-old hasn't been able to replicate that power production in 2026, slashing .245/.290/.387 with 11 homers, 47 RBI, 39 runs and three stolen bases through 90 games.

  • Angels' Ryan Johnson: Allows two homers in fourth loss

Johnson (1-4) took the loss Sunday, allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk over four innings against the Red Sox. He struck out six.

The 23-year-old was done in by the long ball, surrendering a two-run homer to Jarren Duran in the second inning before serving up a three-run shot to Willson Contreras in the third frame, though all three runs on the latter blast were unearned due to an error earlier in the inning. Johnson dazzled with six shutout innings June 23 against the Orioles but has otherwise struggled at the big-league level in 2026. The right-hander will take a 6.99 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 24:10 K:BB across 28.1 innings and eight appearances (five starts) into his next outing, tentatively scheduled for Saturday against the Twins.

  • Angels' Wade Meckler: Idle against southpaw

Meckler is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

The left-handed-hitting Meckler will retreat to the bench for the second time in the series while the Red Sox send another southpaw (Ranger Suarez) to the bump. Josh Lowe will replace Meckler in left field and will bat ninth.

  • Angels' Donovan Walton: Idle again Sunday

Walton is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Though he'll be hitting the bench Sunday with a southpaw (Ranger Suarez) on the hill for the Red Sox, the left-handed-hitting Walton may be fading into more of a part-time role against right-handed pitching too. He started in just one of the Angels' last four matchups versus righties, with Oswald Peraza covering the keystone in each of the other three contests. Walton is still holding down a strong .836 OPS over 96 plate appearances on the season with the Angels, but he's gone just 3-for-16 with a 2:6 BB:K over his last seven games.

  • Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Resting against lefty

Schanuel is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Left-hander Ranger Suarez is toeing the rubber for the Red Sox in the series finale, so the left-handed-hitting Schanuel will be handed a night off. Vaughn Grissom will replace Schanuel at first base and will bat third.

  • Angels' Adam Frazier: Yet to throw at full intensity

The Angels announced Saturday that Frazier (elbow) has been hitting on the field, taking grounders and running, but he's not yet throwing at full intensity, MLB.com reports.

Frazier began a throwing program June 24, but he's still working his way up to making throws at 100 percent. The veteran infielder is expected to return in July, but he may have to wait until after the All-Star break before coming off the 10-day injured list.

  • Angels' Travis d'Arnaud: Still weeks away from return

D'Arnaud (foot) has been swinging a bat and throwing, but he has yet to resume running and is expected to be out for multiple more weeks, per MLB.com.

Running will be a big hurdle for d'Arnaud to clear given the right foot plantar fasciitis that has sidelined him since early May. The veteran catcher is coming up on the date when he'll be eligible to be activated from the 60-day IL, but it sounds like he'll be out several weeks beyond the minimum. With d'Arnaud out of action, Tyler Heineman is currently the Angels' No. 2 backstop behind Logan O'Hoppe.

  • Angels' Yusei Kikuchi: Tosses first bullpen

Kikuchi (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Sunday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Kikuchi has been sidelined since late April due to left shoulder inflammation, which led to him being transferred to the 60-day injured list May 22. He was cleared to resume throwing in late June and has taken the next step in his recovery by tossing his first bullpen session since the injury. Barring any setbacks, Kikuchi will likely return to the Angels' rotation following the All-Star break, though a clearer timeline will be established once he's given the green light to embark on a rehab assignment.

  • Angels' Logan O'Hoppe: Back in lineup Sunday

O'Hoppe (head) will start behind home plate and bat eighth against the Red Sox on Sunday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

O'Hoppe was out of Saturday's lineup after taking a foul tip to the mask during the third inning of Friday's game against Boston. He's been cleared to return to the lineup, and he will form a battery with Ryan Johnson for Sunday's series finale.

  • Angels' Tayler Saucedo: Called up by Halos

The Angels recalled Saucedo from Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday.

Sam Aldegheri was optioned to Salt Lake in a corresponding move. Saucedo has spent the vast majority of the 2026 season in Triple-A, where he's produced a 6.75 ERA and 1.79 WHIP across 30.2 innings. He'll likely fill a low-leverage role out of the Angels bullpen.

  • Angels' Sam Aldegheri: Heading back to Triple-A

The Angels optioned Aldegheri to Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday.

Grayson Rodriguez (back) is expected to return from the 15-day injured list the next time the Angels need a fifth starter, and Aldegheri will end up giving up his spot in the rotation and heading back to the minors. Aldegheri's demotion comes after he went 1-3 with a 8.10 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 10:9 K:BB in 16.2 innings over his last four starts.

  • Angels' Josh Lowe: Continues strong play since return

Lowe went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a loss to the Red Sox on Saturday.

Lowe accounted for the Angels' only extra-base hit and only run when he launched a 437-foot solo homer off Sonny Gray in the first inning. The veteran outfielder spent over a month with Triple-A Salt Lake after getting off to a slow start to the season, but since his return he's playing like he never wants to go back to the minors. Across nine contests after being called back up. Lowe is batting .370 (10-for-27) with two homers, two doubles, five runs, five RBI and a stolen base.

  • Angels' Sam Aldegheri: Done in by poor first frame

Aldegheri (3-4) took the loss against Boston on Saturday, allowing three runs on one hit and four walks while striking out two batters over four innings.

Aldegheri gave up all of his runs in the first inning, when he walked two of the first three batters he faced before Willson Contreras tagged him for a three-run homer. Following that blast, the lefty hurler allowed only three more baserunners (on two walks and an error) and no more runs, but the damage was enough to send him to the loss. The four walks were a season worst for Aldegheri, though he's issued three free passes on two occasions and has a poor 4.5 BB/9 on the campaign. Grayson Rodriguez (back) is nearing the end of his stint on the IL, and Aldegheri is a candidate to be removed from the rotation when Rodriguez returns.

  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Looks sharp in latest rehab start

Rodriguez (back) allowed one earned run on four hits and no walks while striking out five across 5.1 innings during his rehab start with Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday.

Rodriguez looked strong in his second rehab start, tossing 56 strikes on 78 pitches while inducing five groundouts. The 26-year-old southpaw looks to be just about fully stretched out and could be ready to return from the 15-day injured list to make his next start with the Angels. Ryan Johnson and Sam Aldegheri are the likeliest candidates to get moved out of the rotation once Rodriguez returns.

  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Moving rehab to Triple-A

The Angels transferred Rodriguez's (back) rehab assignment to Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday.

Rodriguez made his first rehab appearance with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on June 28 and allowed one earned run over four innings. He threw 57 pitches in the outing, so he needs more time to ramp back up before rejoining the big-league Angels. Rodriguez will make his next rehab start with Salt Lake on Saturday and said he could have "pretty close to a normal workload" in the appearance, per Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register. That could put the hurler on track to make his following start in the majors, though a definitive timeline for his activation hasn't been announced.
