Angels' Ryan Johnson: Struggles in return to majors
Johnson (0-2) took the loss against the Athletics on Thursday, allowing five runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out two batters over five innings.
Johnson was called up from Double-A Rocket City to make his first big-league appearance since May 19. Things quickly soured for the right-hander, as he gave up five runs -- four of which came via the long ball -- in the first inning. Johnson was at least able to settle down from there and didn't give up another run while holding the A's to just one hit over the course of his remaining four frames, but the first-inning damage was more than enough to saddle him with the loss on a day when him team's offense couldn't push across any runs. The Angels' rotation recently lost Jack Kochanowicz (elbow) for the year and Grayson Rodriguez (back) for at least 15 days, but the team hasn't clarified if Johnson is going to get additional starts or if another hurler will get a look instead.

Angels' Jose Soriano: Set to start Friday
Soriano (chest) will start Friday's contest on the mound against the Athletics, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Soriano was originally set to start Thursday's series opener before he was scratched, but he'll ultimately just be pushed back one day. Manager Kurt Suzuki said that they wanted to give the 27-year-old an extra day of rest after he was struck by a comebacker in his last start Saturday. Additionally, Soriano also reported that he had been dealing with chest tightness and sore legs Saturday, so the extra day off will hopefully allow him to be at 100 percent Friday. Soriano has come back down to earth after a remarkable start to the season, posting a 4.74 ERA and 1.54 WHIP with 49 strikeouts over 49.1 innings in his last nine starts, but he did toss five scoreless against the Rays on Saturday, notching his first scoreless outing since April 22.

Angels' Donovan Walton: Sitting again Thursday
Walton is not in the starting lineup Thursday night against the Athletics, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Walton will remain on the bench for the second game in a row as the Angels face another southpaw. Gage Jump will be on the bump for the A's, and Oswald Peraza will start at designated hitter and bat fifth in the series opener.

Angels' Nolan Schanuel: On bench versus lefty
Schanuel is not in the starting lineup for Thursday night's contest against the Athletics, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Schanuel will ride the pine for the second straight game as the Angels face southpaw Gage Jump on the mound in the series opener. Vaughn Grissom will draw a second start in a row at first base, batting fourth versus the A's.

Angels' Wade Meckler: Sitting against southpaw
Meckler is not in the starting lineup Thursday night against the Athletics, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Meckler will take a seat as the Angels face left-hander Gage Jump on the mound in Thursday's series opener. Christian Moore will draw the start in left field and bat sixth versus the A's.

Angels' Ryan Johnson: Called up, starting Thursday
Johnson was called up from Double-A Rocket City, and he will start Thursday's contest on the mound against the Athletics, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Johnson will replace Jose Soriano (chest) on the mound in the series opener versus the A's, and he'll be making his second major-league start of the year. The 23-year-old has posted an inflated 15.12 ERA and 2.64 WHIP with five strikeouts over 8.1 innings in four appearances, including a start, with the Angels this season. After he was sent down to Double-A in late May, he produced a far more respectable 2.65 ERA and 0.71 WHIP with 21 punchouts over 17 frames in three starts. Johnson will look to produce at a level closer to his Double-A form against the Athletics.

Angels' Jose Soriano: Not starting Thursday
Soriano (chest) will not make his expected start Thursday against the Athletics, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Soriano reported that he was dealing with chest tightness and sore legs during his last start Saturday against the Rays, and he now appears to be taking a seat versus the A's as a result. Ryan Johnson was called up from Double-A Rocket City on Thursday, and he'll make his second start of the season with the Angels on Thursday night. More information on Soriano's status will likely be provided in the near future.

Angels' Mike Trout: Hopeful for short IL stint
Trout suffered his right hamstring injury in the eighth inning of Wednesday's 8-1 loss to the Diamondbacks, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Trout was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday as a result of his injury, but he is hopeful it'll be a short stint on the IL. The outfielder explained Thursday that he originally thought that he was dealing with a cramp, and he stated that his concern level is "pretty low," according to Erica Weston of Bally Sports West. Trout currently has no timetable for his return, but fantasy managers can at least take solace in the fact that he appears to have avoided the worst case scenario with his hamstring.

Angels' Christian Moore: Recalled from Salt Lake
The Angels recalled Moore from Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
Moore will return to the majors as the roster replacement for Mike Trout, who landed on the injured list Thursday due to a hamstring injury. Moore has worked exclusively as a second baseman in the majors but has been getting reps in left field at Triple-A recently, so the Halos may look to capitalize on the 23-year-old's newfound versatility and use him in the outfield until Trout returns.

Angels' Mike Trout: Placed on IL
The Angels placed Trout on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a hamstring injury, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
Trout has tallied three homers, five RBI, seven runs and two steals during his eight-game hitting streak, but he'll now have to sit out until at least June 28 while he nurses his injured hamstring. The details of his injury remain unknown, so it's unclear whether he'll be ready to return by then. Jose Siri is likely to take over as the Angels' primary center fielder until Trout returns, and Christian Moore will come up from Triple-A Salt Lake to replenish the team's bench depth.

Angels' Zach Neto: Goes deep again Wednesday
Neto went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a loss to Arizona on Wednesday.
Neto accounted for the Angels' only run with a 431-foot solo blast to center field leading off the game. It was the shortstop's second long ball in as many days and fifth homer across his past 11 games. Neto's .228 batting average through 330 plate appearances isn't great, but with 15 homers, 51 runs, 34 RBI and 11 stolen bases, he's providing plenty of fantasy value.

Angels' Brett Kerry: Sent back to Salt Lake
The Angels optioned Kerry to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday.
Kerry made his major-league debut Wednesday in Arizona, covering four innings and yielding two runs out of the bullpen. The Angels will likely add a fresh bullpen arm later Thursday to take Kerry's spot on the roster.

Angels' Logan Porter: Headed back to Triple-A
The Angels optioned Porter to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday.
He's clearing out to make space on the roster for Tyler Heineman, who was acquired via trade to serve as top catcher Logan O'Hoppe's backup. Porter went 1-for-4 with a double during his brief time in the big leagues.

Angels' Sam Aldegheri: Chased early in second loss
Aldegheri (2-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Diamondbacks, allowing six runs on six hits and three walks in three innings. He struck out one.
Aldegheri didn't last long Wednesday during his third start of the year, serving up a grand slam to Corbin Carroll in the second inning. The 24-year-old left-hander gave up a season-worst six runs and eight hits in what was his shortest outing as a starter so far this year. Aldegheri is tentatively lined up to take the ball against the Orioles next week, but he now holds an underwhelming 4.50 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 13:11 K:BB over 20 innings.

Angels' Tyler Heineman: Traded to Angels
Toronto traded Heineman to the Angels for cash considerations on Wednesday.
After recently being designated for assignment to make room for Alejandro Kirk, Toronto has decided to ship Heineman off to the Angels. In 87 plate appearances for the Blue Jays, the 35-year-old batted just .154/.205/.205 with one homer and six RBI. The defense-first catcher will be inserted as the backup behind Logan O'Hoppe while Travis d'Arnaud (foot) and Sebastian Rivero (hand) are on the IL.

Angels' Donovan Walton: On bench, but earning time vs. RHP
Walton is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks.
Though he'll be on the bench Wednesday while southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez draws the start for Arizona, the left-handed-hitting Walton might have earned himself a regular spot in the lineup against righties for the time being. Since being called up from Triple-A Salt Lake on May 22, the 32-year-old journeyman has produced a .340/.375/.491 slash line with six extra-base hits, eight runs and six RBI over 56 plate appearances versus right-handed pitching. He served as the Angels' designated hitter in each of the team's last four matchups with righties.

Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Sitting out versus left-hander
Schanuel is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Arizona.
The left-handed-hitting Schanuel is slashing only .185/.274/.259 versus lefty hurlers this season, so he'll take a seat as the Diamondbacks send southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez to the bump. Vaughn Grissom will cover first base for the Angels.
