• Ryan Goins: Announces retirement

  Goins announced his retirement from baseball Tuesday. Goins hadn't appeared in a major-league game since 2020 and did not play at any level of pro ball in 2023. The 35-year-old infielder finishes with a career .228/.278/.333 batting line in 555 big-league games spread between the Blue Jays, Royals and White Sox.

• Royals' Ryan Goins: Headed back to Kansas City

  Goins signed a minor-league contract with the Royals on Tuesday. It's something of a homecoming for Goins, who played for the Royals in 2018. Goins has spent the last two seasons at Triple-A Gwinnett in the Braves organization and is likely headed to Triple-A Omaha to start 2023. The veteran infielder will turn 35 in a couple weeks.

Goins lost his place on the 40-man roster in August after Ehire Adrianza returned from illness, and he ultimately cleared waivers to finish out the season at Triple-A Gwinnett.
