Mets' Daniel Duarte: Collects second save of season
Duarte was credited with the save in Monday's 2-1 win over the Padres, striking out two batters in a scoreless ninth inning.
Kodai Senga was brought out for the save chance Sunday against the Nationals, so the Mets turned to Duarte to protect the team's one-run lead. Twelve of Duarte's 14 pitches went for strikes, and he started and ended the inning with a punchout. Senga appears to be the Mets' preferred closer while Devin Williams (shoulder) is on the IL, but Duarte could be in the mix for occasional save chances in the interim.

Mets' Nolan McLean: Takes advantage of sloppy baserunning
McLean (6-6) was credited with the win against the Padres on Monday, allowing one run on six hits and four walks while striking out three across six innings.
It's a bit of a miracle that McLean managed to escape Monday's outing having allowed just one run, but he can thank the Padres hitters for that. At one point, McLean allowed seven consecutive Padres on base, but three of San Diego's baserunners ended up being thrown out at home, two of which occurred back-to-back in the first frame. McLean settled in after that, allowing only three batters on base over the next four frames to secure his sixth win of the year and 15th quality start, the latter of which is tied for seventh-most in the majors. He'll take a 3.34 ERA and 1.16 WHIP over 142.2 innings into his next start, which is lined up for this weekend on the road against the White Sox.

Mets' Brett Baty: Hitting bench against righty
Baty is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Padres.
Though he'll take a seat against righty Walker Buehler in the series opener, Baty has maintained a strong-side platoon role for much of August. Baty doesn't have a home at any one position, but his ability to play multiple spots on the diamond and in the outfield had helped him pick up starts in each of the Mets' previous eight matchups with righties.

Mets' Christopher Morel: Contract selected by Mets
The Mets selected Morel's contract from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday.
Morel inked a minor-league deal with the Mets in late June and has earned a promotion to the big club after slashing .321/.382/.716 with 12 home runs in only 31 contests with Syracuse. The 27-year-old began this season with the Marlins before being cut loose after managing a lowly .425 OPS in 22 contests. Morel could get a chance to play against some lefties.

Mets' Gabriel Arias: Jettisoned from 40-man roster
The Mets designated Arias for assignment Monday.
Arias was a waiver claim of the Mets earlier this month and is now headed back to the waiver wire after going 0-for-5 during his brief stint in New York. He's being replaced on the active roster by Christopher Morel.

Mets' Bo Bichette: Bangs out three hits Sunday
Bichette went 3-for-3 with a walk and a triple in Sunday's win over the Nationals.
The former Blue Jay continues to surge as he's grown more comfortable in his new jersey. Bichette sat with a .583 OPS at the end of May; since then, he's produced an .808 mark, and he's found another gear in August with a .345/.410/.545 slash line, along with two homers, seven runs and nine RBI in 14 contests.

Mets' Luis Torrens: Continues power surge Sunday
Torrens went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Nationals.
Though he remains the No. 2 catcher on the depth chart behind Francisco Alvarez, Torrens has capitalized on the opportunities he's received so far in August. Through his seven starts this month, Torrens has gone 8-for-21 (.381 average) with four home runs, four walks, one stolen base, 10 RBI and six runs. Considering Torrens left the yard just twice through his first 65 games of the season and owns an unremarkable .358 slugging percentage over his nine-year big-league career, fantasy players shouldn't count on the journeyman backstop's recent power surge lasting much longer.

Mets' Christopher Morel: Call-up on tap
The Mets are expected to call up Morel from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday, Michael Mayer of MetsmerizedOnline.com reports.
Morel will join the Mets ahead of their three-game home series versus the Padres. After signing a minor-league deal with the organization July 1, Morel slashed .321/.382/.716 with 12 home runs across 123 plate appearances at Triple-A Syracuse. He'll provide the Mets with depth at multiple infield and outfield spots and could settle into a regular spot in the lineup against left-handed pitching.

Mets' Cole Mathis: Back on shelf at High-A
High-A Brooklyn placed Mathis on its 7-day injured list Tuesday due to an unspecified injury.
Mathis will head to the IL for the second time this season, though it's unclear if his latest setback on the health front is related to the injury that kept him out for about seven weeks earlier this summer. The 23-year-old corner infielder -- whom the Mets acquired in the June 25 deal that sent left-hander David Peterson to the Cubs -- debuted for his new organization on July 23 before being reinstated from Brooklyn's injured list Aug. 4. He appeared in just three games for Brooklyn -- going 1-for-11 with a double and 3:5 BB:K -- prior to landing back on the IL a week later.

Mets' Randy Guzman: Back on injured list at High-A
High-A Brooklyn placed Guzman on the 7-day injured list Aug. 6 due to an unspecified injury.
Guzman is on the shelf for the second time this season after a quadriceps strain previously cost him about six weeks of action while he was with Single-A St. Lucie earlier this summer. After earning a promotion to Brooklyn on July 28, Guzman slashed .393/.438/.536 with a home run over his first seven games at High-A before being shut down.

Mets' Kodai Senga: Locks down third save
Senga secured the save against the Nationals on Sunday, striking out two in a clean ninth inning.
Senga continues to experience a seamless transition into New York's closer role while Devin Williams (shoulder) is on the injured list. The right-hander has now successfully converted each of his first three save chances, and he's also submitted five consecutive scoreless outings as a reliever. Given Senga's 9.66 ERA and 1.80 WHIP over 31.2 innings as a starter, it's hard to envision the Mets moving the hurler back into the rotation again this year even after Williams returns.

Mets' Christian Scott: Fans seven in quality start
Scott (4-3) notched the win against the Nationals on Sunday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks in 6.1 innings. He struck out seven.
Scott pitched into the seventh inning for the first time all season, though he was taken yard for the first time since July 3 in Atlanta. The right-hander has yielded mixed results recently, giving up at least three runs while hitting a batter in three straight starts, but he has tallied at least six strikeouts in six consecutive outings. Scott will take a promising 3.51 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 105:35 K:BB over 84.2 innings into his next scheduled appearance in Chicago against the White Sox.

Mets' Marcus Semien: Receiving afternoon off
Semien is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.
Semien will sit for the second time in four games as the Mets open up a spot at the keystone for Brett Baty in the series finale. The Mets could give the 35-year-old Semien more frequent days off down the stretch, as he's struggled to a career-worst 209/.269/.354 slash line during his first season in Queens.

Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Out of starting nine
Alvarez is absent from Sunday's lineup against the Nationals.
Alvarez, who has struck out five times over seven at-bats this series, will sit out of Sunday's finale. Luis Torrens will handle the catching duties and bat ninth for the Mets.

Mets' Carson Benge: Goes deep in win
Benge went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Nationals.
Benge was a pest all game, with the highlight being a solo shot in the sixth inning. It continued a stellar second half for the rookie, who's hitting .319 with eight extra-base hits, 12 RBI, 11 runs scored and three stolen bases through 24 games since the All-Star break. On the year, he's slashing .275/.338/.419 with 14 homers, 49 RBI, 63 runs scored and 18 steals across 488 plate appearances.

Mets' Sean Manaea: Falters late in no-decision
Manaea did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Nationals, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over 6.1 innings.
Manaea entered the sixth inning with a 2-1 lead before surrendering a three-run homer to Brady House. While the end result was disappointing, the southpaw generated 17 whiffs on 93 pitches and has now completed at least six frames in five straight outings. He'll take a 4.22 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 113:37 K:BB across 111 innings this season into a road matchup with the White Sox next weekend.
