The Reds released Myers on Thursday. Myers was DFA'd by the Reds on Tuesday upon returning from the 10-day injured list. Myers has played well-below his usual standard this season, recording just a .540 OPS through 141 plate appearances in Cincinnati. His previous history in the majors could be enough to at least get him a minor-league deal, but Myers would have to turn things around in a big way to have any fantasy value.

The Reds reinstated Myers (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday and designated him for assignment. Myers landed on the IL on May 26 with kidney stones before also suffering a left shoulder sprain. The 32-year-old outfielder was slashing .189/.257/.283 through 141 plate appearances prior to getting injured and put up similar numbers during his rehab assignment, so the Reds will pass him through waivers and attempt to keep Myers in Triple-A.

Myers (shoulder) recently said that he could return from the 10-day injured list ahead of the Reds' series in Houston that begins Friday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Myers, who is working his way back from a left shoulder sprain and who also recently passed a kidney stone, began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville this weekend and has gone 0-for-6 with a walk between his first two games with the affiliate. He looks as though he'll play at least a couple more games with Louisville before returning to the big club, though once he's activated, it's unclear if Myers will be in store for an everyday role in what's suddenly a crowded Cincinnati roster. Even before landing on the IL on May 26, Myers had mustered a measly .540 OPS through his first 141 plate appearances with Cincinnati.

Myers (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Friday. Myers has been out since late May with kidney stones and more recently a sprained left shoulder. He's eligible for activation at any time, but it's not clear how many rehab games he might require.

Reds manager David Bell revealed Tuesday that Myers (illness) suffered a left shoulder sprain last week, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Myers was placed on the 10-day injured list May 26 due to kidney stones, but Bell clarified Tuesday that the shoulder sprain -- suffered May 23 -- is what will keep him out until at least the early part of June. "He's healthy, the (kidney stone) has passed," said Bell. "The shoulder, which was initially our concern, is still a bit stiff."
