  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Out of lineup versus lefty

Frelick is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's matchup against the Reds.

With southpaw Andrew Abbott toeing the slab, Frelick will ride the bench for Milwaukee's matchup on Wednesday. Jake Bauers will take over in right field and bat cleanup.

  • Brewers' Christian Yelich: Idle Wednesday

Yelich is out of the lineup for Wednesday's affair with Cincinnati.

As left-hander Andrew Abbott takes the mound for the Reds, Milwaukee will give Yelich his second rest of the series. William Contreras will take over as the designated hitter and bat third in the third game of a four-game set.

  • Brewers' Jake Bauers: Belts 15th homer

Bauers went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two additional runs scored in Tuesday's 7-2 win over the Reds.

After collecting singles in each of his first two at-bats, Bauers led off the sixth inning by crushing the first pitch he saw from Rhett Lowder for a 425-foot solo homer. The blast was his 15th of the season. He is now batting .310 over his last nine games, including three multi-hit performances. Through 74 contests this year, Bauers is slashing .272/.377/.508 with 15 home runs, 12 doubles, one triple, 50 RBI, 49 runs scored and five stolen bases.

  • Brewers' Brandon Sproat: Fans seven in win

Sproat (3-4) earned the win Tuesday against the Reds, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven over 5.1 innings.

After serving up a solo homer to Sal Stewart in the first inning, Sproat settled in and held Cincinnati scoreless over the next four frames, including a stretch in which he struck out five of six batters faced. He allowed back-to-back doubles to open the sixth, plating another run before he exited. Sproat has been piling up strikeouts lately, recording 23 over his last 15 innings while issuing just four walks. He has also earned wins in back-to-back starts, both coming against Cincinnati. Sproat now owns a 5.28 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 80:34 K:BB across 75 innings. He is scheduled to face Arizona on the road Sunday in his second start of the week.

  • Brewers' Cooper Pratt: Receiving night off

Pratt is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds.

After starting at shortstop in each of Milwaukee's last six games, Pratt will give way to Joey Ortiz on Tuesday. Since being promoted from Triple-A Nashville on June 16, Pratt is batting just .211, but he's been able to maintain some fantasy relevance by going 5-for-5 on stolen-base attempts.

  • Brewers' Andrew Vaughn: Back on bench Tuesday

Vaughn is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds.

Vaughn was included in the lineup in the Brewers' last four games and went 3-for-13 with a pair of extra-base hits and a walk during that stretch, but all but one of those starts came against left-handed pitchers. The 28-year-old remains stuck in more of a part-time role versus righties, with Milwaukee typically prioritizing Jake Bauers at first base and Christian Yelich at designated hitter over Vaughn in those matchups.

  • Brewers' Garrett Stallings: On cusp of MLB debut

The Brewers recalled Stallings from Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday.

The right-hander is getting his first promotion to the majors after posting a 3.36 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 61:22 K:BB across 67 innings for Nashville this season. Stallings has started in 12 of his 17 appearances at Triple-A this year, but he's likely to work out of the bullpen with the big club.

  • Brewers' Robert Gasser: Optioned to minors

The Brewers optioned Gasser to the rookie-level ACL Brewers on Tuesday.

The left-hander seemed likely to stick on the big-league roster with the Brewers expected to utilize a six-man rotation through the All-Star break, but he's instead been jettisoned from the 26-man roster. Gasser still seems likely to get another look with Milwaukee soon since there is a doubleheader on deck next week in St. Louis.

  • Brewers' Logan Henderson: Next rehab start set

Henderson (back) will make his next minor-league rehab start Friday, Jack Stern of BrewerFanatic.com reports.

It'll be the second outing of Henderson's rehab assignment after he struck out seven while throwing 50 pitches over three scoreless frames with Triple-A Nashville on Sunday. Manager Pat Murphy said Monday that the right-hander is expected to come off the injured list prior to the All-Star break, which lines up Friday's outing to be his final rehab start before rejoining Milwaukee's rotation.

  • Brewers' Rob Zastryzny: Throwing live batting practice

Zastryzny (shoulder) will throw a live batting practice session Tuesday, Jack Stern of BrewerFanatic.com reports.

Zastryzny has yet to make an appearance for the Brewers this season due to recurring shoulder and intercostal problems. Facing hitters is a big step for the lefty, and he could be cleared for a rehab assignment if things go smoothly.

  • Brewers' DL Hall: Throwing on flat ground

Hall (pectoral) has progressed to throwing on flat ground from 60-to-75 feet, Jack Stern of BrewerFanatic.com reports.

Hall landed on the 15-day injured list in early June with a left pec strain. The lefty was given an anti-inflammatory injection earlier this month and cleared to resume throwing after visiting the doctor last week. Hall is aiming to rejoin the active roster for the Brewers by late July.

  • Brewers' Coleman Crow: Facing hitters Tuesday

Crow (forearm) will throw a live batting practice session Tuesday, Jack Stern of BrewerFanatic.com reports.

It appears to be the first time Crow has faced hitters since he went down with a right flexor strain in mid-June. He should be ready for a rehab assignment soon. Crow's last appearance for the Brewers before getting hurt was in relief, but he could join the Triple-A Nashville rotation once activated from the 15-day injured list.

  • Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Blasts key homer in Monday's win

Ortiz went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's 5-3 win over Cincinnati.

Ortiz's lone hit was a big one, as he belted a two-run homer in the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie and give Milwaukee a lead it wouldn't relinquish. The 27-year-old got the start at third base, where he has split time with David Hamilton since top prospect Cooper Pratt was promoted to play shortstop June 16. Ortiz has had a limited offensive impact this season, slashing .201/.281/.266 with two homers, 17 RBI, 20 runs and five stolen bases across 69 appearances.

  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Secures 11th save

Megill picked up the save Monday against the Reds. He struck out two over a perfect inning.

Megill entered in the ninth inning with a two-run lead and made quick work of the Reds, retiring the side in order to secure his 11th save of the season. The right-hander has been mostly lights out in June, posting a 1.64 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB while converting three of four save opportunities across 11 innings this month. After a shaky start to the season, Megill has righted the ship and established himself as the Brewers' top option in the ninth inning, owning an overall 3.38 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 43:9 K:BB across 32 innings.

  • Brewers' Robert Gasser: Allows three runs in no-decision

Gasser did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk over 5.2 innings against Cincinnati. He struck out five.

Gasser allowed his fair share of traffic but mostly kept the Reds in check, though Elly De La Cruz got the better of him with a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Monday marked Gasser's first appearance since June 21 after he was briefly moved to the bullpen, though he didn't pitch in relief before re-entering the rotation. On the year, the 27-year-old owns a 1-3 record with a 4.54 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 36:13 K:BB across 35.2 innings (seven starts). With Milwaukee planning to use a six-man rotation through the All-Star break, the southpaw is tentatively lined up to start Sunday against Arizona.

  • Brewers' David Hamilton: Idle against lefty Monday

Hamilton is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds.

The left-handed-hitting Hamilton will hit the bench for the second time in the Brewers' last three games, with both of his absences coming against left-handed starting pitchers. Joey Ortiz will replace Hamilton at third base Monday while southpaw Nick Lodolo toes the rubber for Cincinnati.
