  • Drew Pomeranz: Elects free agency
    By RotoWire

Pomeranz cleared waivers Friday and elected to become a free agent, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Just days after signing a big-league deal with the Giants last Friday, Pomeranz was DFA'd by the club Tuesday and will now re-enter free agency rather than joining Triple-A Sacramento. The 35-year-old southpaw allowed six earned runs in nine innings with the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate and hasn't pitched in the majors since 2021. He'll presumably seek out another major-league contract elsewhere.

Pomeranz had just joined the Giants on Friday after opting out of his minor-league contract with the Dodgers in April, but now his time in San Francisco is done without having made an appearance. The 35-year-old 's last big-league appearance was in 2021 for San Diego, and he's dealt with forearm and elbow injuries since. In eight Triple-A appearances this season, Pomeranz has a 6.00 ERA and a 14:1 K:BB across nine innings. In a corresponding move, Spencer Howard was selected from Triple-A Sacramento.

  • Pomeranz was released by the Dodgers on Friday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Pomeranz had an opt-out clause in his minor-league contract and has exercised it. The veteran left-hander allowed six runs over five innings with Triple-A Oklahoma City, although he did have a 7:1 K:BB and was touching 94 mph with his fastball, per Ardaya. He should be able to land on his feet in another organization.

  • The Dodgers signed Pomeranz to a minor-league contract Friday. Pomeranz was in camp with the Angels this spring before being released prior to Opening Day. The veteran left-hander last pitched in the majors in 2021, having dealt with elbow problems the last couple years. Pomeranz has been excellent in relief when healthy, so he makes plenty of sense on a no-risk, minor-league pact.
