  • Tigers' Alex Cobb: Official with Tigers
    By RotoWire

Cobb passed his physical with the Tigers on Tuesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. The Tigers agreed to a one-year contract with Cobb on Monday, a deal which includes $15 million for 2025 with incentives of $1 million apiece for reaching the 140- and 150-inning thresholds. Cobb dealt with injuries during his one season with the Guardians in 2024, but he logged 149.2 and 151.1 innings during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, respectively, as part of the Giants' rotation.

  • The Tigers have agreed to a one-year contract with Cobb, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. Cobb has a connection with president of baseball operations Scott Harris, as the two were both with the Giants during the 2022 season. The veteran right-hander was limited to just 16.1 regular-season innings and 5.2 postseason frames with the Guardians in 2024 due to a variety of injuries but has typically been a solid mid-rotation starter when healthy. Cobb will get to pitch half his games in a pitcher-friendly venue at Comerica Park.

  • The Guardians removed Cobb from their ALCS roster due to an acute left low-back strain. Cobb lasted 2.2 innings in his Game 1 start against the Yankees, getting charged with three runs on five hits and three walks. Because he's being removed from the roster due to injury, he is now ineligible for the World Series, should the Guardians advance. Ben Lively has absorbed Cobb's roster spot and might also get an ALCS start in his place.

  • Cobb has been named the starter for Game 1 of the American League Championship Series versus the Yankees, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. Cobb was able to start only three games during the regular season, though he was effective with a 2.76 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 10:3 K:BB over 16.1 innings. The right-hander started Game 3 of the ALDS versus Detroit and took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out two batters over three frames. That was his first outing since Sept. 1, so Cobb may not be ready to handle a full workload -- he exited after 41 pitches in his ALDS start.

  • Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said Monday that Cobb will start Wednesday in Game 3 of the ALDS in Detroit, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports. Cobb was added to the roster prior to the ALDS after missing the end of the regular season with a blister on his pitching hand, and the Guardians will rely on him to be part of their rotation for the series. The veteran right-hander was limited to just three starts during the regular season due to injury but posted a 2.76 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 10:3 K:BB over 16.1 innings. It's unclear what kind of workload Cobb might be able to handle in Game 3, but Cleveland is unlikely to count on him to work deep into the contest.
