Diamondbacks' Adrian Del Castillo: Homers in Saturday's win
Del Castillo went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Brewers.
This was his first homer since May 26 versus the Giants. In the 16 games in between long balls, the catcher batted just .158 (6-for-38) while receding into a backup role. He's hitting .185 with a .555 OPS, five homers, 23 RBI, 12 runs scored, four doubles and no stolen bases over 164 plate appearances this season. Del Castillo's playing time could dwindle even more once James McCann (quadriceps) returns from the injured list, which is expected to happen as soon as Monday.

Diamondbacks' Paul Sewald: Shaky in 20th save
Sewald allowed a run on one hit and struck out two over one inning to earn the save in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Brewers.
Sewald had another shaky appearance, but he was able to uphold the lead. He's given up seven runs over his last 5.2 innings, but he's converted all three of his save chances in that span. On the season, the closer has a 4.50 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 35:8 K:BB through 32 innings while converting 20 of 21 save opportunities.

Diamondbacks' Merrill Kelly: Snaps skid Saturday
Kelly (6-8) allowed two runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings to earn the win over the Brewers on Saturday.
Kelly lost all five of his starts in June, but he was able to get back in the win column in his first outing in July. The veteran right-hander limited the damage to a two-run home run by Christian Yelich in the fifth inning. Kelly is now at a 5.71 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 53:35 K:BB across 86.2 innings through 15 starts on the year. Kelly had a strong May, so it's possible he'll be able build momentum from this outing. His next start is projected to be on the road in San Diego.

Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: On bench to begin Saturday
Gurriel isn't in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against Milwaukee.
Gurriel had started five straight contests, going 4-for-20 with a home run, two doubles and three RBI during that span. He'll get at least a partial day off Saturday while Gabriel Moreno moves from behind the plate to get a turn at DH.

Diamondbacks' James McCann: Two more rehab games scheduled
McCann (quadriceps) will play Saturday and Sunday for Triple-A Reno and could then rejoin the Diamondbacks, MLB.com reports.
McCann began a rehab assignment Thursday for Aces, going 0-for-4 while catching seven innings. The back-to-back games this weekend set McCann up to rejoin Arizona for Monday's game in San Diego.

Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Heating up
Moreno went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Friday's 7-4 extra-innings loss to the Brewers.
Moreno plated Arizona's first run as part of a three-run third inning that erased Milwaukee's early 3-0 lead. He's been one of the Diamondbacks' hottest hitters of late, batting .357 (25-for-70) over the last 20 contests.

Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Racks up three hits
Vargas went 3-for-5 with one RBI in Friday's 7-4 extra-innings loss to the Brewers.
Vargas started at first base against left-hander Kyle Harrison and delivered a good game. While Vargas remains a regular in the lineup versus southpaws, his playing time versus right-handers has been limited lately. He hit just .100 over 23 games in June to lose out on a starting role and will likely be limited to utility duties as long as Arizona's infield is mostly healthy. Vargas is hitting .263 with a .709 OPS, seven home runs, 45 RBI, 38 runs scored and a stolen base over 273 plate appearances this season.

Diamondbacks' Jose Cabrera: Shaky showing Friday
Cabrera allowed three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three over 3.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Brewers on Friday.
Cabrera landed just 33 of 63 pitches for strikes in his shortest start yet. Through 13.1 innings over three starts, he has a 4.73 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 10:5 K:BB. The 24-year-old continues to fill in for a depleted rotation, and he'll likely get one more start before the All-Star break. That's expected to be on the road versus the Padres, but Cabrera will likely need a good performance to make a case to stay in the rotation once Michael Soroka (glute) is ready to return.

Diamondbacks' Pavin Smith: Knocks in run in loss
Smith went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the Giants.
Smith's run-scoring single was the first salvo in Arizona's attempted comeback in the bottom of the eighth inning, when the club scored its four runs. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo continues to show patience with the slumping first baseman, who entered the game on a 1-for-23 (.043) skid, by running him out there when the team faces right-handers. Smith is slashing .152/.260/.212 with one home run and six RBI since coming off a lengthy stay on the injured list in late May.

Diamondbacks' James McCann: Rehab assignment begining
McCann (quadriceps) will begin a rehab assignment Thursday, MLB.com reports.
McCann, who's been out since May 19 with a strained right quad, will open his rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno. The reports estimates the catcher's return for some time next week.

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Swipes two bags in loss
Marte went 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI, two stolen bases and one run scored in Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the Giants.
Marte wasn't able to extend his homer streak Wednesday, but he made up for it on the basepaths. The second baseman is up to three steals on the year, all of which have come in his last nine games. He probably won't pick up the pace much in terms of steal attempts, but he's doing enough with the bat lately to be a set-and-forget player at the keystone. Marte is now hitting .267 on the year with an .811 OPS, 17 home runs, 54 RBI, 48 runs scored, 18 doubles and two triples over 82 contests.

Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Knocked around by Giants
Gallen (3-8) allowed six runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four over 5.2 innings to take the loss Wednesday versus the Giants.
Gallen had a decent start going until he allowed a solo home run to Heliot Ramos and a two-run blast to Victor Bericoto in the fifth inning. The Giants went small ball to scrape together three more runs, all charged to Gallen, in the sixth. While the veteran right-hander has struggled for most of the season, he's been particularly bad lately, allowing 20 runs over his last 16.1 innings with a 6:5 K:BB in that span. Overall, he's at a 6.36 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 56:28 K:BB with 17 homers surrendered through 92 innings over 18 starts. His next start is projected to be in San Diego, but Gallen has gotten to the point where it's virtually impossible for fantasy manager's to trust him in any park or matchup.

Diamondbacks' Max Kepler: Records first hits as D-back
Kepler went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Tuesday's 8-2 win over the Giants.
Kepler, who recently completed an 80-game suspension, was hitless in his first nine at-bats with Arizona before snapping that run of futility with a first-inning double. He later singled and scored in the fourth. Kepler has started four of his five games with the club, taking over the strong side of a platoon in left field with Lourdes Gurriel, who's been the team's primary designated hitter since Kepler's arrival.

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Stays hot with another homer
Marte went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and two additional RBI in Tuesday's 8-2 win over the Giants.
Marte's homer streak is at four games. They've all been solo shots, but he was able to supply a two-run single prior to his long ball Tuesday. Marte is batting .265 with an .806 OPS, 53 RBI, 47 runs scored, 17 doubles, two triples and one stolen base over 81 contests. He has racked up 49 of his RBI out of the leadoff spot, ranking third in the majors behind James Wood (52) and Shohei Ohtani (50) for RBI from atop the order.
