  • Matt Davidson: Inks deal with Korean club
    By RotoWire

Davidson signed a one-year, $700,000 contract with the NC Dinos of the Korea Baseball Organization on Thursday, Jee-ho Yoo of the Yonhap News Agency reports. He can bring his total salary to an even $1 million if he hits all of his incentives. Davidson, who will turn 33 in March, spent the 2023 campaign in Japan with the Hiroshima Carp, popping 21 homers in 117 contests.

  • Matt Davidson: Finds work in Japan
    By RotoWire

Davidson agreed with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball on a one-year, $902,000 contract on Thursday, Yahoo Japan reports. Had Davidson elected to continue his career stateside, he wouldn't have been in line for anything more than a minor-league deal that included an invitation to big-league spring training, so the 31-year-old's decision to chase the bigger payday overseas isn't a major surprise. Davidson spent the 2022 campaign in the Arizona and Oakland organizations, slashing .147/.216/.324 with a 35.1 percent strikeout rate in 37 plate appearances in the majors. He was one of the top sluggers at the Triple-A level, however, smashing 32 home runs between stops with the Diamondbacks' and Athletics' top affiliates in Reno and Las Vegas, respectively.

Davidson was designated for assignment by the Athletics on July 21 and spent the rest of the campaign with Triple-A Las Vegas. He managed only 37 plate appearances in the majors and posted a .147/.216/.324 line across 37 plate appearances between time with Arizona and Oakland.

  • Davidson was designated for assignment by the Athletics on Tuesday, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Davidson has appeared in 13 games for Arizona and Oakland this season, hitting .147/.216/.324. As a 31-year-old corner infielder who last produced an above-average batting line in 2018, he's unlikely to generate much interest on the waiver wire.

  • Davidson went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 10-1 loss to the Red Sox. Davidson hit for Stephen Vogt in the sixth inning and promptly broke up the Red Sox's shutout bid. Since his recall from Triple-A Las Vegas, Davidson has gone 4-for-19 (.211). He's batting just .172 with two homers, three RBI and three runs scored through 32 plate appearances between Oakland and Arizona this year. Jonah Bride is expected to handle most of the work at third base for now, leaving Davidson to compete for playing time as the designated hitter.
