The Cubs released Joseph on Thursday. Joseph was one of seven known non-roster players cut loose by the Cubs as the organization looks to shed payroll in the event no minor-league season is played in 2020. The 31-year-old utility man had previously appeared in 42 MLB games across the past two seasons with the Orioles, Athletics, Pirates and Giants, slashing .171/.207/.256 in those contests.

Joseph joined the Cubs as a non-roster invitee Friday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. Joseph suited up for three big-league teams last season (Oakland, San Francisco and Pittsburgh) but played a total of just 28 games. In 68 plate appearances, he hit .156/.191/.250. The Cubs likely view him simply as organizational depth.

Joseph was outrighted to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday. Joseph hit just .156 with a home run and seven RBI over 28 games across stops in Oakland, San Francisco and Pittsburgh last season.

Joseph was claimed off waivers by the Pirates on Monday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Joseph will now head to his third team of the season. He's done very little in 19 games for Oakland and San Francisco so far this year, hitting .151/.193/.245. It's hard to envision him playing a major role in Pittsburgh over the final two weeks.

Joseph was designated for assignment by the Giants on Saturday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Joseph's tenure with San Francisco lasted a little over a week; he was claimed off waivers from Oakland on Sept. 3. He logged 16 at-bats across eight games, managed one hit while striking out six times. The 30-year-old will now take another spin through waivers.
