Hutchison exercised the opt-out clause in his minor-league pact with the Jays and will head back into free agency. • Hutchison (oblique) struck out two and gave up one earned run on three hits and a walk over three innings Tuesday for Triple-A Buffalo in the club's 7-2 win over Rochester. Hutchison battled a left oblique injury in the latter stages of spring training, but he was able to make enough progress in his recovery from the injury to avoid a stint on the 7-day injured list to open the Triple-A campaign. Though he doesn't possess a spot on the Blue Jays' 40-man roster, Hutchison still may rank near the top of the list for a promotion to the big club if Toronto's rotation depth is tested as the season unfolds.

  • Hutchison (oblique) was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Blue Jays on Monday, Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star reports. Hutchison probably wasn't going to crack the Opening Day roster anyway, but an oblique injury ended any chances of that. He'll try to get healthy and get on track at Triple-A Buffalo.

  • Hutchison (oblique) is aiming to throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. Working his way back from left oblique tightness, Hutchison did some light throwing Sunday and is slated to long-toss from 120 feet Monday. The veteran right-hander probably won't be ready in time for Opening Day, but he seemed to be a long shot to make the roster, anyway.
